A buddy and I in our pontoons and flyrods fished out of the south marina. Was not fast action but we managed seven wipers to the net between us. Beautiful day with little to no wind .

Thanks for posting a report, were any of the wipers over 18"?

One over 18", others were in the 15-16" range. All were a lot of fun on a fly rod.

Wipers are a blast to catch but on a fly rod it must be a blast.

My dad catches them all the time at minersville on crystal buggers with sinking line also has tied into some 4-5lb smallies on the same setup.

Hey fishgiver, I'll be taking my tube up there next week and was thinking I could get by with a 6 weight for those wipers...your thoughts? Also, if you'd be willing, patterns, location and line type (sinking/floating/WF?) would be most appreciated! thanks, PM if you wish.

A 6 wt will work fine. Use heavier tippit [10 to 12 #] to avoid strike break-offs.
Try streamers like buggers and zonkers. I like to use a type 2 full sink line but you could use a floating line with a long leader.

I was using a 7 wt with a type 3 sink and a perch colored bugger. Tried my intermediate sink but the type 3 is what worked. And yes put on new leader, 10-12 lb. to prevent break offs.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. 6 weight it is. I'll try probably some white zonkers, clousers and what not, maybe a white woolly bugger. You guys targeting pods/boils, or just blind casting or trolling around with your sinking line? thanks again..RW

Hey Tony, how you been? How long have wipers been in Minersville? Doesn't seem like it has been more than a few years but what size are they getting up to now?
