Southeast idaho catfish?
#1
Does anyone know of a body of water near Idaho falls that has a decent amount of catfish that might provide an opportunity to catch something close to the ten lbs range? I know of some places down farther south but I was hoping to not have to drive several hours. I don't need anything really specific. P.m. If you have any suggestions. Thanks

as far as i know there isn't any catfishing near Idaho Falls. unless somehow they have made their way up the snake. which would be horrible for the native trout.

If you want good number of 10 pound cats your going to have to make the pilgrimage to Brownlee.

You don't have to drive all the way to Brownlee to catch a 10 pound cat. I have caught several that size below Swan Falls.

Still a long way from Idaho Falls, though.

I've caught a few channel cats at mctucker ponds just south of Blackfoot, but only one over 20" in several trips. I also heard they started to stock roberts gravel pond with channel cats again but they would all still be pretty small. Swan Falls may still be too far away for me to consider an afternoon fishing stop, though I'm not opposed to a good multi day fishing pilgrimage. Has anyone ever caught anything big out of Alexander over by Soda Springs? I've heard they have catfish but I don't know if it is too cold there for them to ever make it much past 3 lbs

I once caught a 3 lb cat at Alexander while fishing plastics. Caught many smaller on stiink bait but still doesn't sound like what you're looking for. Also caught a 15 pound carp on a senko there. When I saw it flash at the boat I thought for sure I had the new record smallie for Idaho.

Milner is closer but you have a chance at a 10 pound fish. I have never caught one there but I don't bother with it much. I fished it from Burley Bridge to the dam several times and caught fish under 22". Once I hooked a big fish under some brush and it broke me off but no idea what it was or how big.
If your willing to put in a lot of time with out much reward until you figure them out I am sure there are large cats in milner. I just quit because I can go down river and catch 10 pound fish every time. Ron

Thanks for the advice everybody. Looks like I'll need to just save a bit more for the old fuel fund.
