Kept the skunk out of the boat today....barely. On the water at 1100 this morning 'cause I was swapping out the trailer bunks in the parking lot. Fished from south marina to east side of island, then west about half way to the light pole, then south about half way to the south west corner, then east again zig-sagging all the way to Freeway Bay. Made a right turn to do last leg back to marina and take my skunk lumps, and ziiiinng.....drag pulled out. Thought I was snagged on the bottom, but nope. Got a nice fat Eye, 19 inches took 2 hooks from both trebles on a blue and black and silver rat-l-trap. Lucky I guess, but I'll take it.

Jeff,
You know, I fished 6 hours Thursday, 4 hours Friday, 3 hours Sunday afternoon. Got 1 Wiper Thursday, 1 Walleye Friday, 1 "almost" Sunday. Was in Freeway bay again yesterday about 4:30, trolling a 4" Storm swim bait that has been pretty productive in the past. I have also had many hits on it that released somewhere before the boat. Yesterday I finally learned why. A nice fat Eye hit it hard, ran about 30 feet of line out before I could get the drag tightened down. I reeled him in about 60 yards, lots of head shake and fight. Got him to withing 3 feet of the boat, had the net ready to scoop him up, and he sees the boat, opens his mouth, and gone. He was never hooked. Was hanging on to the swim bait by the tail all that distance. [mad]
Well I have a fix for that problem. I'm going to attach a trailer hook in the tail, tied to the eyelet on the jig head. Just maybe that will stop or reduce the hit and runs on that lure.
All the other reports of the great catches at WB this weekend, [crazy] glad others were having better days than I did. But then maybe I just wasn't holding my mouth right .[frown]

Willard is a tough puddle, lots of spots where the fish aren't. I'm pretty good at finding those spots. Hey I had a catfish do sort of the same thing as your walleye to me on Saturday. Grabbed onto my bait and held on tight and wouldn't let go. Bait was too big to fit in its mouth but it tried anyway then it couldn't let go. I didn't care I'll catch them with or without a hook. Well I hope things get better for ya at Willard. Good luck. J
