Wipers Huntington North
#1
I usually just fish for trout only, but since i will be staying in Utah for the summer i would like to try my luck close to home on the Whipers and bass. What are some good techinques and rigs to start with?

Any input would be appreciated.

Boat or shore?
You like bait fishing or trolling/casting lures
Let us know and we can better help you.

Boat and Shore are both options. Mostly boat. I also would like to know techiniques for both artificial trolling/casting lures and bait fishing. For trout i catch a lot of bait with cast nets such as chubs, shiners, etc so im used to that. But this bass fishing is a new ball game.

Thanks in advance

[#0000FF]Sorry. I don't get down there much. But maybe this info from the Utah DWR page will help a little.

There are a few folks on the board who are at least basically familiar with the lake. Hope you get what you need.

I haven't had any experience with bait or lures but I have caught some using flies from a kick boat. The water may still be a little cold for much wiper action but within the next month it will definitely pick up. I basically troll (paddle, I mean, I don't have a motor) in my tube dragging various colored leech patterns from size 2-6 on a sinking line. The ones that I have hooked up with were down 15' - 25'. There are also some decent rainbows, largemouth bass, and bluegill in the lake. Oh, by the way there are quite a few chubs too. You might want to hit it before Memorial Day because after that it can get a little busy on the weekends with recreational boaters. Good luck when you go.

Still don't have the picky Huntington North wipers figured out yet, Have caught a few trolling small rapalas that resemble a chub,
Caught a few jigging with a worm sweetened silver cast master,
Tried mussels Willard style from the bank nutin!
Been chilly lately when I tried mussels but now the heat is on. and so will the power squadron!
I only have a 12ft portabote so those huge wakes can be a problem real quick.
The wipers turn on later in the day when it warms up but by then you need a bigger boat, Not huge just bigger than mine.
I go early as possible and just watch the parking lot for the inconsiderate people to pull in then get out.
Its a very small lake and I am surprised at the size and speed of the boats that go there.
It really is pretty good fishing if you can take decent wakes.
Quite the variety too! Bluegills, Big Mouth, 2 trout kinds, cats, Wipers, and of course Chubs!, Big ones!
Shoot me a pm or do it on line don't care I will tell you where the 40' depth is and best fishing is when it gets hot,
I live in Price and attack that lake pretty regular,
Let me know what boat you are in and if I run into you I will show you a set up or two that works there,
Good luck

Thanks I appreciate the help. I will definitely be picking your brain as soon as the boat gets up and running. I live in Cleveland and mostly fish Scofield, Starvation, and Strawberry but since its so close I thought I should start giving it a try.
