On 6-4 we arrived for the first time ever at Cascade Lake and, thanks to a helpful forum member, we found the perfect camp spot - right on the lake with the boat "docked" on shore 30 feet away. Really cool - could literally step from the bow on to a mowed grass field, with shade trees, right at the back door of the camper. Best place for camping / boating we've ever seen. Wow, the weather was beautiful, spectacular snow capped peaks, 40's at night 70+ during the day.
That was the good news - But "Here's The Rest of The Story"
[ul][li]Within an hour after we began fishing my wife caught a nice 18" trout - I thought: super, it's going to be a gang buster trip (NOT!!!)
[/li][li]We fished the balance of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning and caught nothing - zippo - zero - not even a smell.
[/li][li]The people we talked directly to said they had only caught a few, or none. But we heard third had of stories of 30-40-50 perch being caught. However, we didn't see anyone catch anything.[/li][li]A couple of people said that about a week ago the trout were biting fast & furious at fishing bridge, BUT[/li][li]Last week the water level rose about 4 feet, and that is what apparently slowed fishing - according to several folks we talked to. There were lots of low shore lines underwater with grass, bushes and trees sticking up.[/li][li]So, we trolled, cast, jigged, flung, flipped, frothed, drowned and splashed just about every conceivable metal, plastic, rubber, hairy, feathery, stinky, flashy, ugly, pretty fishing contraption we had in the tackle box and, other than one stinking trout, failed to hook a fish - didn't even see a decent fish arch on the Humminbird.[/li][li]Water temp was 63-65 degrees, surface[/li][li]Overall we had a great time enjoying the lake, but, as for fishing... well, to say the least we were Clueless at Cascade. Kind of typical of my fishing: "should have been here last week" or "it starts picking up next week".[/li][/ul]
