[#800000]I just got my Chamberlains 2 weeks ago and so far I like them. There is definitely a learning curve to getting BOTH tensions set correctly, but not all that hard. I had mine pretty much dialed in by the third trip. I have 2 each of the standard and 2 each of the stackers.[/#800000]

[#800000]Submoa – it’s really hard to say for sure, because we have never met. But if you’re like 90% of most downrigger users in Utah, you don’t put near enough bend in your rods when using the riggers. I say that only because you indicated you’re losing kokanee if they release themselves from the downrigger. That tells me that you’re using a way too loose connection.[/#800000]

[#800000]My rods are set almost doubled back on themselves. I want a ton of snap when they are released to insure a firm hook set. I lose very few fish – if any – this way. What I see others doing is MAYBE moving the rod tip about 12 to 18 inches off the straight rod center line. Trust me on this – that isn’t near enough rod pressure on the fish when released.[/#800000]

[#800000]To show you what I mean, here is a picture of my set-up from last week fishing the Gorge for kokanee. The rods are both Ugly Stik 7 foot Ultralights. Click on the picture to make it bigger and you can really see the bend in the rods.

[#800000]You will notice that BOTH rod tips are nearly touching the water. I caught 8 kokanee, 2 rainbows, and 1 mack over 3 days. And while I did LDR 2 fish on the last day, they were both lost half way to the boat on head shakes – not on the release.[/#800000]
