Need advice on fishing near Boulder City
#1
Went out fishing for the first time in over 20 years on free fishing day at Boulder City Urban pond and really enjoyed myself. So I went out and bought a cheap rod Ugly Stik GX2 and a fishing license. I am looking for some decent places to shore fish since the most luck I have had at the Urban pond is one tiny bluegill and a baby striper. I would also be interested in any fishing groups/meetups that have events on Tuesdays/Wednesdays or perhaps so classes so I can learn the basics like knots, lures, etc.. Aslo where is a good place to get bait like anchovies near boulder city? Last time i went fishing regularly was with my dad but I only fished with bobbers w/ a spincasting reel. I want a few spots and some more experience since my daughter wants to go fishing when she visits next month.

You can get chovies and/or dines at the Vons in BC. The Shell station also had bait last time I looked. You need to keep the chovies/dines frozen or the fish will just pick your hook, use dry ice or a well insulated cooler.

I haven't shore fished Mead/Mohave in 20 years, but used to pick off loads of dink stripers with a 1" KastMaster. The NV Striper club has monthly meetings at Bass Pro Shops and would probably have info on fishing Mead. BPS also has mini seminars about fishing on Mead at the big fish tank several times a day, call ahead to check times. The guys in the BPS fishing dept would probably fill you in on what you need. Another option would be Sportsman's Warehouse out in Henderson.

If shore fishing Mead in July, plan to arrive and leave early, the sun will be baking by 11am. Maybe do some swimming to cool off after finished with fishing.

There are designated fishing piers / docks at Hemingway and Willow Beach . From Boulder City you have several choices from 33 hole all the way back to BC , most of these spots require a bit of a hike down to the water and sometimes a tough hike back up. You also can get to waters edge with a two wheel drive at either Govt wash or 8 mile. Good Luck !

I tried the 33 hole and I loved the location but the walk back was killer. I plan to try Boxcar next but my only concern is taking those dirt roads. My wife drives a Nissan Cube and I drive a Prius. So far all I managed to catch is a small striper. Plan to go back at tomorrow at 4am or so to try Boxcar.
