Sorry for late report, but it was a full weekend for Scenic City Fishing.

On Saturday I had a trip with Wayne Yates and his grandson, Josh, from Tellico Plains. Josh won a fishing trip I provided as a prize at a TWRA Fishing Rodeo last year.

We went after numbers using light tackle. My typical summertime "chicken drift" technique which stays pretty darn consistent all summer ... and surprisingly, the water generation schedule provided us with some great weekend flow. So we thumped 'em pretty good.

On Sunday I FINALLY got to fish with Dan Honeycutt from Jackson and his daughter's boyfriend, Blake Pickard, a mechanic at Erwin Marine. We'd had to cancel two previously scheduled trips due to bad weather or other problems. We made up for it Sunday by staying after it all day long... in spite of 90 degree temps in the afternoon.

In the morning we concentrated on trying to find a big bite. We're starting to see some bigger blues as the spawn comes to an end. No real monsters but Blake and Dan were very happy with the big fish, including a 26, 16, 15 and 12 (plus a few smaller ones).

In the afternoon we switched over to the light tackle bite ... and the 15 actually came on light tackle. It gave Blake a serious tussle (video forthcoming). But we put some great numbers in the boat and I'm guessing our 9-hour voyage yielded at least 150 lbs. of catfish and we might have been pushing 200. A good time was had by all and that means life is good and gettin' better every day!
