Pelican report

This weekend I took my nephew and second cousin both nine out to Pelican for some bass fishing. We fished Friday night through Sunday. We caught quite a few bass and lost just as many. Flipping the tulips is a tough job for a nine year old. I did just as much fishing as tying hooks changing baits etc but worth it to watch the kids hook some largies. The water is getting low but the fish are still relating to the tulies. I didn't get a water temp but hopped in few times to cool off and it felt decent 70ish. The wind was out of control every evening which was a bit of a downer. I mean like 25 mph wind. We Probably boated 50 bass with the biggest at 3 lbs 9 oz and averaging 11 or so inches.

Thanks for the report. The wind can be a real problem over there because it is so shallow.
I haven't heard of anyone doing that well over there this year. Is the water pretty clear? I've heard because of all the carp in there that water is cloudy.
Way to get the boys out fishing for something besides trout. It's going to take some time to wipe the off those faces.
I've been waiting for the water temps to come up so I can chase some bass and bluegill in my tube with a fly rod.

Glad you got in to some decent bass. Not sure if you're aware but Pelican is known to have "swimmers itch," a very uncomfortable condition caused by some micro-organism. It's the reason you don't often see water skiers there. I wouldn't advise hopping in to cool off, especially as the summer progresses. Even Steinaker was reported to have it last summer due to low water issues. Hope you didn't get it, you would know by now.
