Watch out for the mountain lions right before night. They like to start screaming at me to give up my fish. Almost killed one when leaving.
If your staying to night fish there make sure you have bear spray, knife, gun, strong head lamp ect.
Hope you enjoy the bats, owls, and mountain lions screaming at you [laugh].
This happened just on Sunday.

Mnt lion almost killed your fish, or you almost killed a cougar?
Don't you need a permit and a 'season' for that?
Maybe they should post a warning sign? Something like this Bear sign. You prefer berries or pepper?

I was driving about a couple hundred feet away from the parking spot from the boat ramp when I almost hit one. It just jumped from the river side of the road to the other side fast.

[#0000FF]I'm callin' BS. Based upon some of your previous fish posts...and what you consider to be "huge"...I am guessing your mountain lion was probably a raccoon or something of similar size. As for all the screaming, that was likely some of those Rainbow folks from Heber area on their way outta town.
Seriously, there are cougars (non human kind) all over our local mountains. Some have even come right down into town during the tough times for food and water. They love to raid the food storage stashes of the local folks. And they like to dine on Fifi and Fluffy too.
Never a good idea to let your guard down with cougars. They can sneak up behind you and munch your neck before you even know they are there. Harder to do that when you are in your vehicle. There have been more reported cat attacks in the past few years in several areas of the west.
Think one of them might hit a bunny fur fly?

But seriously - as a budget minded persona - keep an eye on Woot.com, they've had several "knock-off" versions. I got a "GearPro" and was showing it off to my son (thought he might attach it to his snowboard helmet, or mnt bike, catch some of his crazy times), and HE learned me up it was a knockoff.
SO - that explained my ripping deal on a $300 camera for $30. But - all the same, I'm sure the bells and whistles are limited, but it takes pictures, video, and has the waterproof case and various "attaching" doo-hickeys.
I think TD might be onto something though - suspect gathering a few "rainbows" would be more fruity than nutty. Results might be similar to licking the back of an amazon tree frog. Like WOW man!

Wolves and drought are pushing the lions out if their territories. No one has been attacked for years, more critters killed by wolves. Confront holler yell, just don't act like a deer. It always ends poorly for the cats. Urban sprawl?
Names and location for attacks please. None if the cousins friends sisters crap.

If you're afraid of mountain lions take up bowling[  ] or get a real dog. I've encountered lions dozens of times in all corners of the state. However other than seeing their tracks occasionally I never would have known they're around if my dog hadn't alerted me. My dog did scare one off after snacking on smoke salmon (she wasn't about to share) once but she doesn't pursue like with a coyote or black bear. My wife once stopped mountain biking for a rest 10 yards from one but it just crawled away through the brush as the dog barked and got between the lion and my wife. I used to fish an area where a mountain lion hung out usually at the top of the canyon. Other than the time it came down with the salmon even my dogs did little more than give a small growl to let it know we were back. While Utah has no reported mountain lion deaths most attack are stealth attack that get there victim from behind at the neck. A weapon isn't likely to be helpful and I've never bothered to carry one even when I knew one would likely be around. Worry about lighting while fishing and a gun is good defense for low lives not mountain lions. It was actually a  day when hunters got our favorite cat we had encountered for 3-4 years. I had named it Molly's Kitty as my dog had grown so used to it fishing our favorite remote stream.

On one of my most recent trips to Rock Cliffs, I saw a house cat prowling around in the same general area you described. Are you sure that wasn't what you saw?

It was a big kitty no small house baby cat. It was loud screams not little kitty hissing.
