There has been some plants in recent weeks of small fish. Going up there next weekend, so I am curious as to what the fishing is like? It is my understanding that there are a lot of plants in the water. Does that mean trolling is hard? How does powerbait work in the lake?
How deep is the lake?
Thanks in advance.[fishon]

Navajo Lake is always a shallow lake...however, with the recent issues the lake is even shallower now because the lack of snow this past spring did not produce enough water to fill it. So, even though the dike has had a lot of work done on it, the lake is going to be very low and very shallow. Even on wet years when the lake is full, trolling can be difficult in the late summer and fall months because of the lake's lack of depth and weeds.
Powerbait can work well for the rainbows...generally, though, powerbait is not the best bait for splake. So, depending on what you want to catch or what you are ok catching, powerbait may work fine. Also, splake are generally much tougher to catch in the summer months...so, fishing for them regardless of what you use may be tough.

I'd go to Panguitch Lake before Navajo Lake. The trout are bigger there and PowerBait works well. But go in the deep water. The fishing is better for boaters, kayaks, and pontoon boats than from the shore. But it is a little weedy right now so I'm waiting till next month to fish up there. I got my lures covered with weeds when I trolled them and that was on June 30th. So PowerBait may be better than trolling. But be prepared to wash your boat or whatever when you get home.
My 2 cents and good luck!
