The fishing is picking up with cold temperatures . Fished off the bank and did OK . Better than it has been most of the summer .

It was cold at 7:30 when I brushed the ice off part of my pontoon to start fishing. It was 22 degrees, but the fish were already feeding and I needed to be off the lake by 1:30. Within 5 minutes I had released my first fish. After that it took well over an hour to hook up again. The last 1 1/2 hours rocked. It was fish on every 10 to 15 minutes. The best part of the day was the banter between about five veterans of the lake at the mouth of Duck Creek talking about what the Fish and Game officer told one earlier on. He claimed that the officer said, according to the regulations, that once you caught and released two fish you were done for the day. I thought that they were going to charge me for the entertainment that went along with that conversation. It was hilarious!!! I heard great news today from a good friend who has fished Henry's Lake for four decades. He said that the old biologist who thought big fish were more important than many fish was coming back to manage the lake. Hope that is true! Saturday was the best weather I have had at Henry's over the past 4 years, even when starting at 22 degrees.

It is true Damon is back . Jessica has been transfered to the Salmon district . Hopefully they will turn it back into a trophy lake . I wish they would stop planting so many cutthroughts . They don't fight like the Hybrids or the Brookies .

I hope they go for quality of quantity. I gave up my yearly trip to Henry's after the average size continued to decrease. Maybe I will return in a few years.

I agree with you. We still make a trip every year because it is so beautiful and Yellowstone is so close, but this year we did maybe two days on the lake and 3 days on the rivers.
I agree the Brookies hit like a freight train and have straightened many a hooks, but the Cutt and Hybrid fight the same to me lb for lb. Just that the Hybrid will get bigger. [signature]

Maybe he will give ice fishermen another couple months on the ice season.
One can only hope. Ouzel [signature]

Last year during ice fishing season the weather sucked . There was only about 10 days when the wind didn't blow 25 + miles per hour .

Wind blows in the summer and fall too[laugh]
I hope they go back to end of Nov. for ice fishing.[ ![]() All this crap started when they extended. Either close earlier, or just open year round.[ ![]() [signature]

Of course I hope they open it all year . I don't like fishing it open water . I live in Island Park from May 20 thru the middle of January . So far this year I have fished it 4 times . This has been the strangest year I have ever seen . On August 26 the lake temperature was 58 degrees . Normally it is in the mid 70 .

Stirring the pot [
![]() Maybe they are jealous that we can drag a sleigh by foot or snowbuggy to our fishing spots and they have to go by boat or rubber duckie? FWIW, I have fished Henry's open water only a handful of times over the years, but the ice allows me to take Grandkids to a lake easily accessed with small ones and give the opportunity for them to learn to jig and catch fish. I don't agree with opening it year round, but until the end of February would be nice. This opinion and a $1, will get you a cup of coffee some places. Ouzel [signature]

It was a Technical lake that drew people from all over the world. Not a put and take. But, greed has changed it forever. [signature]

I know this is an older post, but someone misheard what the C.O. said. Regs state if you have 2 fish in your possession, you can't fish anymore, even if you're releasing the fish. It's been that way for years. [signature] |
