Hit lake mead 09/13 from 5:30 am to 11:00 am. I fished the government wash side of the Vegas wash. Shad was hard to find until after 9:00 am. I saw Striper boils all over the Vegas wash near the back of it. I end the day with 5 Striper and one giant catfish , 5 (4 Striper and 1 catfish) caught on live shad, 1 Striper caught on a lure when a short boil started near me. All of the Striper were caught in the last 1 hour and a half.
The catfish took about 10 minutes to get in. Everytime I would gain on the catfish it would take back the line I gained and then some. I released the catfish after taking a few pics. I didn't get any measurements because I left my tape measure at home. But I took a pic with my foot in it for comparison. I wear a size 10 so that gives you an idea of how long that sucker was.
Overall, I was a good day on the lake.

Yeah, that sucker pulled the rod holder out of the ground when in hit. I had to throw the Striper I had just taken off my lure rod up on the bank and make a sliding save to prevent my rod, reel and rod holder from taking a dip in the lake. Needless to say that catfish got my heart pumping.

That is what I estimated too. That sucker's head was bigger than my hand and it was longer than my leg. I'm glad that I switched my leader over from 8lb. fluro to 12lb. because I probably would have lost the fish if I was still using 8lb.

Nice catch! It's been about 6 months since I've been out. I used to go at least twice a week. Anyways, last time I went was last Tuesday after the rain storms. I can't believe how much the water really has dropped. I launched from boulder harbor n made my way towards the wash but turned back after seeing the water was muddy starting at sand island. I didn't waste much time going beyond because I wanted to only stay out for an hour n run the motor. I figured there wouldn't be any boils in that muddy water. So caught a few stripers and smallmouth near the harbor before heading home. So you guys have seen boils in muddy water? I have caught many stripers in murky/muddy water but never experienced a striper boil in those waters. I want to know so that next time I make it out I'm going to try and hit my old areas.

On Saturday the water was stained. And I saw boils from the very back of the wash to Hole 33.

Franky,
Yes, the shad was caught from the lake. Live shad is the best all around bait for lake mead. If you want to meet up sometime I can show you the ropes. PM if you are interested.
