C.J. - A Trip of Firsts
#1
Last Friday & Saturday my son and I fished C. J. for the first time, had a great trip. We stayed at Cottonwood and met up with dtaboys and his wife. What great folks, really helped us get a feel for how to fish this reservoir. Water temp ranged from 61 to 64 degrees depending on location.
This was a trip of firsts for us:
The first four fish I caught were four different species, bass, crappie, bluegill, perch - first time I ever had that happen. The perch were biting fast and furious, jigging worms or perch parts - or pitching small cranks in the narrows seemed to hook all the sub-10 inch perch you wanted. Kept a few for dinner - tasty.
This was the first time EVER that I caught TWO bass on a crankbait at the SAME TIME! Wow, was that crazy. Couldn't figure out what I had when I pulled them in, there they were - two nice bass hooked on to the two treble hooks. Also caught nice bass on Carolina rigged brown worm (thanks for the tip Dale).
This was the first time I've ever seen so many boats stacked up on each other. I guess these folks must have had a bunch of friends fishing since we saw 3 to five boats fishing within 20-50 feet of each other. Real cozy fishing, never saw that before. Saturday afternoon we counted over 40 boats in the narrows section, evidently catching perch. Lots of young kids having a great time, pretty neat.
The Bruneau Arm was fairly cloudy with suspended thin algae nodules, down to about 15 feet, fishable but not too clear. The main body of water was relatively clear, about 6 ft of visibility, lots of floating weeds up near Cove inlet.
Thanks again to Dale for all his help.

Sure was great to meet and visit. I was surprised you were gone when we came back in. The bio mass at CJ is amazing. Hope it freezes again this year. Give me a heads up anytime your down this way.
