Lincoln Beach last time
#1
After being thoroughly humiliated on my elk hunt I decided to take out my frustration on the LB catfish. Launch was tough with less than two feet of water and lots of ugly green goo on the surface. Water temp was 55 at launch and warmed to 58 by noon. Beautiful day with calm water and hungry cats. Started out using small wb for bait but quickly switched over to my old favorite carp meat. Fished the springs area first and then headed out to Bird Island. Too many duck hunters banging away there so we returned to the springs.

G-kids had a break from school so had a chance to get them out one more time. Fun. We caught nine good cats with the biggest one weighing in at 11 pounds and 31 inches long. (Where was he during the contest??) We kept 8 for eating and released the biggest one.

Probably my last shot this year because of the low water. Glad to hear they have finally put the plug in the tub at the Jordan gates. Hope we have a good water year. Still lookin' for the 20 pounder that eluded me all summer but next year.....

[#0000FF]Sorry about the no-show on elk. But glad the kitties treated you okay. That biggun was there all summer. You just didn't fish in the right place at the right time.

I keep trying to tell folks that some of the biggest cats are taken in October and even into November.

2015 will be the year of the gorilla team (me and you) and mighty will be the catfish that succumb to our skills.

Really nice cat! Would have been even nicer three weeks ago [Wink]

You'll definitely have the edge when the contest gets extended through October next year.

TD-- Got that big one right out in front of the first spring. I have abused that area day and night all summer but that big boy apparently didn't like me or my offerings for summer dining. I might have the "right place" figured out, now just gotta work on the "right time" which seems to be later in the season. Just wish we had a bit more water.

Gonna hold you to that promise to join the contest next year. It is no secret the south needs all the help we can get. Losing to that course and hasty bunch from up north is really getting old.[mad] A "gorilla team" effort should swing the pendulum southward. Can't wait.

Gmwahl-- Thanks for the [Wink] . I was gonna tell Yote to hold the prize awards cuz I had a late enty that I caught
on the 30th of Sept.... then decided I couldn't get it past him. That one would have helped a bit if he would have shown up three weeks ago. Oh well, that's the way it goes.

I hope we do decide to extend to the end of Oct. next year or even longer but only if that "edge" is shared by everybody. Oct. is still my favorite time for cattin'.

You're a great competitor and I'm lookin' forward to next year. Will be great fun again.[fishin]

Hey BLK nice cat. I've found a couple that would have raised my mark this month as well. Not like you did, but a little bump for my score so I think end of October will work for next year. I can see I'm going to have to get in serious training if were going to compete with the gorilla team. Anyway great catch and report. Later J

Thanks Skunked. I think the bigger cats are getting a little more active. I went out again today and caught six cats all between 27 and 30 inches plus two others that were 17 and 18 inches. Had some good bites on a whole 8 inch wb but could not get a hook-up. All the others were caught on a pork chop-sized chunk of carp meat. Beautiful, calm day. Can't kick the cat habit so I'll probably try to get out a few more times.

Lookin' forward to next year already. I expect to converge with that 20 pounder next year for sure. With TubeDude committed to help out we can give you northern guys some real competition.

Best to ya,

BLK

Wow that's some serious cat action. They have all but quit biting for me lately, maybe I'm fishing the wrong spots again, maybe I need to explore some new areas and see what I can find. They pulled the cork on Cutler today so everything will be changing day by day now. Hope they don't kill off too many fish this time. Well nice job and take it easy on us next summer. Later J
