Snowfall ... Snowpack?
#1
Anyone got some cool snowfall shots of the valleys? How are we doing with the water levels?

The snow has hit hard and heavy the last 10 days. Water levels have risen a little in the lakes, but the snowpack is way up all across the state. Every drainage but the Escalante is well over 100%. I would think the state average right now is 115%. If we can keep at least normal snow totals for the next few months, we may just pull out of this nasty drought.

If we keep getting snow like this, some lakes and reservoirs will return to their normal levels in the spring and some still will not. If we don't get periodic rain in the spring and summer, they'll get drawn down quickly. Technically we've barely put a dent in the drought. To see how much (or how little) this snow has helped, check out the animated map at http://www.drought.unl.edu/dm/thumbnails/6_week.gif and compare December 23 to December 30.

I say we've got our snow, now let it stop. Sure, if it keeps on snowing it will fill up the reservoirs, but what of the animals? The big game animals in this state are in a sorry shape with all this snow. The winter ranges are just about dead. What we need now is just a really wet spring.

Fish1on,

That snow looks just like MY snow in Roy. Go Figure! Mine doesnt have a dog in it though. Looks like you live in one of the neighborhoods near me. Take Care.

The dog pic in my signature block was actually taken at Bear Lake, but the attached photo is my back yard here in Roy! Send me a PM some time and we will compare notes and try to go fishing!!

Fish1on,

My bad! You are right, I didn't see the dog in the Backyard picture. I just "melted" the two different pictures together.
