Pineview Jan 19
#1
First, thanks to all for the excellent info on this site. Been reading for a couple months and appreciate the tips.

Had a couple hours today so my son and I decided to hit Pineview in search of crappie. Weather was great, ice was solid, edges were good, but the fish didn't want to play. Marked them on the finder, changed rigs, tried different depths and locations along the north side of cemetery point, but no takers.

Wanted to make another round of chowder but it looks like the wife will have to cook tonight. Not a perfect day but much better than working.

They seem to get lockjaw after 9:00 AM..after tht you really have to coax them to hit...use small bait, just barely rock the jig a bit and then hold it still...worked for us anyway on Saturday.

The crappie pick up often just before sundown, too. About when the perch used to quit.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to time my next trip better and get some smaller gear.

Glow in the dark jigs help some. I get very few hits on crappie on mealworms, more on very small perch chunks and waxies. They seem to like small stuff, that's true. Not tiny little dots like bluegills, but like moon jigs and teardrops and ratfinkies, and stuff. And tiny bobber/spring bobber are mandatory. The tiniest "tic" on the drop, or just when your jig gets there is all you get on the best bites.

Good luck.
