I have heard multiple reports that there is a large pressure ridge blocking access east from Haws Point and the Strawberry Bay Marina.
How big is the pressure ridge? Can you get around it? Is it safe?
I am all for walking long distances, but I do have both four wheelers and snowmobiles. I am really hoping to get to a couple locations east of Haws Point.
Has anyone been riding machines out across the lake and into the narrows?
I am hearing that there is 8-10 inches of ice, but then hearing that know one is crossing the lake.
Any detailed info would be much appreciated. Private messages are welcome too.
Thanks

I've been waiting to get my machines out also, but the deck isnt ready.
I fished mud creek last week, and I fell into a crack up to my chest.
Good thing it was on the walk out. That morning we walked right
Over it. The temp was 5 DEG on the way in and 33 DEG on the
Way out. There is good ice, but to many danger areas. That pressure ridge
being one of them. WE NEED A COLD SNAP!

I fished from the marina over to haws and back to the campgrounds on Mon and Tue. I had NO problem getting around on my 4 Wheeler. I did see the pressure ridge when it was created right after safe ice. It no longer looks like it first did. I drove right over it NO problem. ice was 8" to 10" everywhere i fished at. I felt safe everywhere i was driving and fishing. Good Luck to those planning trips.

There is no such thing as safe ice. Ice is always moving and changing, so it can be very undependable... however, that being said, the general rule is 6 inches thick for a machine. I was on Renegade with my snow mobile two weeks ago about 100 yards out from shore. The ice was in excess of 7 inches then. Guys were running around on the bay west of the Mariana two weeks ago on their ATV's also. But then the word is an ATV took a swim that same weekend. It has been cold up there every night since I was there last. I know it was 0 two weeks ago the morning I arrived and 17 at mid day when I left and it was near 40 here in salt lake. So, I would imagine it has been 0 or below 0 pretty much every night for the last couple of weeks. No doubt the ice has been growing. I expect the ice to be in excess of 12 inches at Renegade easily by now. I too am heading up next week and intend on riding my snow mobile across the lake from the marina to renegade.

If you are taking wheelers to Renegade from the main marina, I would strongly suggest that you stay to the east going through the bottle neck just before you arrive in the Renegade area. There are some springs on the west that keep the ice soft. I have fallen through there. Pretty scary.
