Had a good time at Hyrum. My nephews and brother and sister in law joined us. The boy caught a few trout and a lot of perch. It was not the best day on the ice but better than sitting home. My nephew had the best luck. He was using powerbait. We used mainly shrimp. All in all a good day. The longest fish I saw at the way in was a carp. That may get the longest fish for the day...

A carp at Hyrum? Say it ain't so! Didn't think they were in there, and was glad for it.

We were there too. Didn't do the derby. We caught a ton of small perch and a few dinky bows. One guy in our group caught a 15" bow. Lots of people out!

Glad you guys had fun. That's too much of a zoo for my liking.
That's the first i've heard of Carp in Hyrum. Wouldn't surprise me though.
I wonder what the biggest fish of the tourney measured?

Biggest fish was a 20-21 " brown. I turned in a 17 inch Sucker as my biggest fish. Caught a bunch of small perch and some Bows as well. Fished over by Devils half in assorted depths. Green Ratfinkees tipped with a wax worms was the most consistent.

I stand corrected it must have been the sucker that cowboy caught not a carp. I heard about it second hand and did not see the fish, it was in a plastic bag. The guy that told me about it called it a carp...

No worries - that's actually good news!
Huh, didn't know there were suckers in there either. Guess whatever's upstream. Wouldn't mind if a few Kokanee spilled down from Porky, and found their way.
There's bluegill too, but I don't see them often.
So Jeff - you musta walked right into the middle of the tournament! Guess they had a good turnout.
Was it 14" and over for entries? Was there a perch category?

Yup, I didn't have a clue it was tournament day... When I passed 6 cars coming up the hill as I went down I should have figured something was up... Well, glad they didn't catch all the fish... So it seems like the local ponds are sort of worn out lately, I need to find something new any suggestions? I'm thinking north of the border for next week end... Hoping the pig will get thick enough ice on the main body so I dare go out there for kokes... but I'm still sort of chicken with the warm temps this winter.. Catch ya later... J
