2/27/15 Great day at Strawberry
#1
A friend and I took a trip Friday up to Strawberry to give the ice another go. Decided at the last minute to have my son "skip" school so he could go too. Sure glad I did! We arrived at our unloading spot at 4 am and promptly had 1 snowmobile breakdown. Yipee. So we all piled on 1 sled and snowmobile and headed out. Made it out to our favorite spot and set up our ice camp. Amazing how much fun Dalton had fishing! Even a 4 hour ride to get to the lake couldn't keep him from smiling ear to ear! We had a great day. Managed to land 49 fish with Dalton putting 25 on the ice alone. Mostly slot cuts but we did keep 7 rainbows and 1 lonely kokanee. Almost broke the slot with one pretty cut but the tape would only read 21 no matter how we stretched it.[Smile] Jack and Dalton both caught pretty 20 inch bows. It was a fine day on the ice. I am amazed at how little snow there was getting down to the ice. Once on the ice it was smooth sailing on 12-14 inches of good ice with 4 inches of fresh snow on it. But the rest of the snow has really melted. We fished over in the narrows country in 70-80 feet of water. The fish loved wax worms but a few did hit on little krill shrimp. Please see picts below. Have a good evening!

Sounds like a great day on the Berry. I'm planning on taking my boys out tomorrow. Not asking for specifics here but if you wouldn't mind I'd be interested in general where in the lake you were and what depth they were at. If you feel more comfortable you could always PM me too

Thanks

The fish we caught seemed to come in anywhere from 12 to 25 feet for the most part. I did chase a few at 60+ and even managed to catch a few. Had 1 school come through right below the ice. It was neat watching them ignore our attempts to entice them to bite. They gave us the fin and swam away.

Thats pretty cool to get a nice Kokanee through the ice! Its also good for a kid to miss a little school every now and then to go fishing.
