Ice Fishing for Mackinaw Many Years Ago
#1
I ran accross this interesting [url "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFmQPbnbb30 "]30 minute YouTube video[/url] showing how the traditional old Inuit Eskimo would spend a day ice fishing for mackinaw. Quite interesting to see how they got to their GPS coordinates, their ice augers, the pole they used, the lb. test of their lines, and their ice fishig tents. I wasn't able to clearly see what they were using for a lure, hook, or bait but I did notice that the one guy actually "tasted" it to make sure it was presentable. Pretty interesting stuff there (well, interesting to me anyway).

So, Jim W., anything in there that you might consider incorporating in your style of fishing? [:p]

I think you need to get out a little more Ralph.[Wink] But ya, I think I'm going to give that style of rod a try, and the line looked really cool. Also the clothes. I really want a set of those for the lovely spring weather we have here.

I'd pay good money to watch Jim start chanting/singing while catching fish like this! LOL

[#0000FF]Loved the power auger...although it might have been a bit much for that thin ice.

Also liked the "Jaw Jacker". Nifty that it doubled as a fish carrier...after the line was "reeled up" on it.

I wonder how many of us did a mental inventory of all the stuff we carry in our sleds on our "modern" trips.

[#000000]Cool video, very, very, cool. Did anyone record the chant?[/#000000]

After watching this I clicked on the attached icon link on perch fishing at Devils Lake N.D. Wow 2lb. perch, stay at the lodge, they truck you to your ice house everyday, and feed you.
A bunch easier than those eskimos had it.

Let's see. It's been a long time since I have posted on a Mac thread. Let me see if I remember how it goes...

He handled it by the gills, was pretty rough on its head, hung it and was hard on the neck and I don't know if the barb on that hook was pinched down. He also had it out of the water wayyyy too long. [Wink]. Other than that, solid technique. [reply][/reply]
