Very worthy cause. But may I point out that "first annual" is a complete oxymoron? If it's the first, it cannot yet be annual, and vice versa.

"As an outdoor recreation venue it relies on water as a primary public attraction and is one of the two most important on the Wasatch Front."

Curious, what is the other most important one?

Also, based upon what criteria was it determined to be "one of the two most important..." ?

And finally, not to be biased or anything, but if it takes 36 inches of water at the ramp "... to service most ski boats..." please keep it at around 34 inches or even slightly less. [Wink]

That is what I like about this site. There is [#0000ff]TubeDude[/#0000ff] to enlighten us about all things fishing and RockyRaab to teach us the proper use of the english language.[Wink]

Kent I will get answers to your questions and I agree 34 inches does sound like a better depth. LOL

I am new to the Friends of Willard Bay group but I really like what it stands for.

Last year we organized a rock cleanup at the south marina. I made sure to grab these rocks in this photo as I chipped my prop earlier in the year.

I appreciate what they are trying to do and what they have already accomplished. I remember you being on rock detail and you will be rewarded for your efforts, but it may not be in this life.

I also appreciate the effort with the rock detail last year. I only have a small boat with a motor that is barely 1 ft. in the water when I have it locked up on shallow drive. But having those rocks out of the way made it possible to beach Tin-Can when there wasn't enough water to get to the dock. Thanks for yours and all the other folks efforts.

Now, if we could just get mother nature to be nice and dump about 10 feet of good wet snow up in the mtns, we may get enough water to make the south marina usable again.

Kent, I received an answer to your question.

The other is Utah lake ... there are only two primary water recreation areas on the Front. Utah Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the State.

Attendance and income ... by far the two largest on the front.. you can go to the State Parks website, they post attendance figures for every month of every year ... Willard has been down almost 50% in the last several years ... not just the oil spill either ... 3/4th's of the Bay was never closed.

Most boaters are polite and obey the laws.
Like it is in so many situations it's the few that give everyone a bad name.

We all have the right to use ort waters as long as we do it legally and ethically.

From my reading today, I see this wasn't the first time you made this observation.[Wink]

I would love to be a friend of Willard Bay, but I live in Tooele and can't make it to meetings like this during the week. I will try to keep my eyes open for events to clean up the lake, etc. I am off work Friday through Sunday.

Flounder, I will post on here whenever we do anything to clean up Willard. I am liking what I am seeing so far on the agenda for tonight. There will be a few speakers and a presentation. We are really pushing for more water to be put into Willard Bay. The state park system is losing plenty of money every year because the ramps are closed or it's launch at your own risk.

Trubbs, I hope to see you there. I am looking forward to tonight.

I hope to see everyone there that can make it.

I won't be able to make it to the meeting tonight due to some work responsibilities, however, I'd appreciate hearing about projects planned for Willard and how I can be of help. My weekends are wide open and I've got a good strong back!
Thanks for the information.

Two projects that I have heard thrown around were and archery range and frisbee golf. I don't think those are official by any means. We have been working with a couple of State and Federal organizations attempting to get a safe boating water level at the Bay.

The Bureau is working on some thoughts. It's been more than a half century since the Bay was debated in the Congress. Times change, conditons change, demands change.

According the Park folks, since 1990 more than 9 millions of public dollars have been spent upgrading the State Park. In the last 6 to 9 years Park income has suffered significantly because the Public was denied the opportunity for public recreation on the water.

Many think of the oil spill as the cause ... not so, low water is the culprit, no fault of anyone, simply have to find a way to accommodate the public needs

Below is a chart that based off of a study done by the state. It shows how much water is in the Aquafier and how much it would take to keep Willard Bay at appropriate levels.

Are they proposing that water be pumped from the aquafier into Willard Bay?
