Jordanelle survey
#1
We just posted a new survey that's focused on the fishery at Jordanelle Reservoir. We're looking for ways to increase and improve fishing opportunities there, and we'd really appreciate your feedback: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PC7TFFZ

Bring on the lake trout and the wipers. The biggest problem with Jordanelle, IMNSHO, is the boat ramp gets so crowded on Saturdays (someday I hope to retire) that it can take all the fun out of the outing.

In my non scientific personal opinion kokanee salmon would fit perfectly in Jordanelle. The provo would be an excellent spawning river and with the depth of the lake they would thrive.

Well I completed the survey for what it's worth.
I have a very self centered view. I'm old and live in the past, 10-15 yrs. ago. At that time I was able to go have a wonderful time catching good size smallmouth from my tube with my best friend (olden ret, dog). Had to travel 70+ miles gut it was worth it, NOT NOW. I accessed from the N. side down the "old" road. Fishing got worse, and worse. Then I learned that my dog had to be on a leach. Broke the law for a time. How do you fish from a tube with a dog on a leach??[frown] Now, unless I'm mistaken, can't even do that.
Any way, this old guy misses that fishery. Fond memories. but I don't see me going back at these conditions. [frown]

It isn't so bad when you fish from Rock Cliffs in a float tube. You'll have to join me sometime. I don't usually get a lot of trout though.

Oh, and in before the rants. [Wink]

I enjoy catching all game fish except for perch.

How well would Wiper or Tiger Muski do in Jordanelle? I like how they are sterile and don't reproduce. I think they would do well in there.

Make the whole arm between the Provo inlet and damn wake less....

And put in a real boat ramp at the Rock cliff area to ease the pressure at the main marina ramp

Good idea WingNutt, making the whole Rock Cliff area wakeless would make me happy. Maybe not all the way to the dam, but making most of the arm wakeless would be fantastic.

The main thing is to try to make Jordanelle an exceptional fishery for whatever species is decided upon, whether it's wipers, kokanee, perch, etc. We don't need to concentrate our efforts and funds toward rainbow trout; we already have plenty of waters to fish for those all over the state. But anglers would come to Jordanelle from all over the state, if they had an opportunity to catch some nice kokanee, big perch, a few big wipers, bragging sized smallmouth, etc. It wouldn't do much good to plant lakers, kokanee, etc if they rarely showed up on the ends of our lines. I just hope that with whatever management strategy is decided upon, we end up with a great fishery for that species, even if it's yellow perch.

I don't necessarily disagree (I also suggested some facility improvements at RC) but one thing to keep in mind with making the ramp at RC larger is that a larger ramp will mean more folks from the power squadron trying to launch there. It is bad enough as it is seeing these guys trying fruitlessly to get their power boats back on trailer for an eternity while those of us with crafts more designed for the ramp have to wait.

With respect to introduction of other warmwater game fish, all I would say is that Jordanelle is forage challenged as it is. What effect would adding more predatory game fish have?

Making the whole Rock Cliff arm Wakeless just like the Wallsburg arm at Deer Creek is the best Idea ever!!!!

My thoughts exactly, I like the Wallsburg arm being wakeless at Deer Cr. And I wouldn't want to see the ramp at Rock Cliff improved to the point that it attracts the power squadron. Better to leave it as it is.

Better yet, make the whole lake wakeless!

I fully,100% support the RC arm going wakeless.

Excellent idea.

[#0000FF]Great idea...if we could first get the power squadron to recognize the small wakeless area at the upper end already. Can't count the number of times I have been working the shoreline well within the current wakeless zone and either had water skiers spray me or jet skis doing donuts around me. I know, I know. My fault for being so inconsiderate to restrict their maneuverability in such a narrow arm of the lake in the first place.[/#0000FF]

The only way we are going to see healthy numbers/sizes of any species is when the water people maintain the water levels. We can't have these huge fluctuations and expect it to not adversely affect the fishing.

Hi,

I just wanted to remind everyone about the survey on the Jordanelle fishery that is currently underway. We are planning on terminating the survey next week, so please take a moment to respond if you have not already done so.
