A new contest for BFT
#1
This year BFT is planning on an open water fishing contest instead of the fly fishing contest. See the rules below and let me know if you have any questions, suggestions, corrections etc. before we launch this contest... I look forward to your feedback!

Welcome to the 2015 BFT Open Water Fishing Challenge. Due to state law we can only have 49 people enter this type of contest. Registration starts May 8th and will close on June 8th or earlier if full. Entry money will be due by June 15th. Please get it to me ASAP and be on time. Contest starts May 8th. Contest will end October 1st, 2015. Winners will be announced by October 15th, 2015.

1. There will be a five dollar entry fee again this year. (reply to this post and I will send you a PM with info on where to send your entry fee).

2. Must be a registered member of BFT to enter. The current contestant list will be located at the bottom of this post. When your name is green, I’ve received your entry fee and you’re good to go.

3. Points will be awarded by the half inch (2 points per inch, 1 point per half inch).

4. Fish Boards will be allowed this year. You must have a picture with the fish on the ground next to the tape with the contest word. It can be on a piece if paper or the sand but IT MUST BE CLEARLY WRITTEN!

If the fish is caught on a pontoon or float tube you may use your apron to hold the fish but the apron must be straight. As for the measuring process your measuring tape must be straight with no kinks.
The contest word must be clearly visible on a piece of paper (which can be inside a plastic bag if needed.)

The Contest word will be released May 8th, 2015

5. Picture should be taken from end of ruler, ruler laid on the ground under/next to fish. Need to be able to see both ends of the tape.

6. Check that your camera’s date is set, photos will be judged as current based on their “creation date” in the file information.

7. Points will be awarded for up to eight fish.

8. Three fish must come from the following list. (Black Crappie, Yellow Perch, Bluegill/Green Sunfish pictures , Bullhead Catfish, White Bass) Bluegill and green sun fish will count as the same species.

9. The other five can come from the Native or Nonnative sport fish as classified in the Utah 2014 Fishing Guide. There will be one exception. Burbot will also be allowed to count as one of the five.

10. Cuttbows will be classified as a Cutthroat.

11. Utah public waters only. Reciprocal lakes count as Utah waters (i.e. Bear Lake and Flaming Gorge).

12. You must post your own fish for it to get credit. I can help anyone who has problems resizing or posting their photos. Please post your photos in JPEG format on the Utah Contests forum of BFT and not links to another site. Photos must include the banner and a clear shot of the ruler to be counted. Take extra pictures to be sure! Please do not post large pictures inline. If you want to post inline to “tell your story”, downsize, but a large photo attached to the post helps confirm the correct measurement (zoom). Please watch the glare – I need to read the numbers.

13. Posts must include species (common name) of fish, date caught, name of lake (No Abbreviations), and length of fish.
If you choose to, you may leave the name of one lake out of your posts. All fish from this lake do not need the name of the lake posted. The name of the lake does have to be given to one of the moderators of this board in the form of a PM though.

14. Entries should be posted within two weeks of the catch.

15. Anyone harassing another contestant for posting the name of a lake will be disqualified.

16. Anyone attempting to cheat or found cheating will be disqualified.

17. Anyone disqualified forfeits their entry fee.

Prizes:

The pool of money collected from the entry fee goes to first place.

We also welcome any prizes you would like to donate or contribute. If we get donations we can create more prize categories so more people will have a chance at winning prizes too.

Check back for more prizes to come.

Entries can be upgraded
For Example: If you catch a larger perch but have one posted already, no problem. Post the new perch and your points will be adjusted. You don't get points for both fish, but the larger one will be the one counted.

Please check your pictures of fish at the lake if you can. If it moves and doesn't show the full length of the fish, I'm sorry but I go with what shows up in the picture. Points are based on the photos. No limit on size of photos this year but please don't abuse this. If anyone has reason to contest a photo or entry, please do so via PM to me. Do not challenge an entry on the open forum. If you notice any errors or have questions about my tracking, shoot me a pm.

It would be nice if it was separate. One for the bait fisherman and for people who only fly fish. [:/]

Looks like you can count me out of this contest.

What? Afraid of being upstaged by the non fly flingers?

Sorry but I'm no fan of play with any master baite's in the summer. Let's see they type of fish that aren't common for fly fisher's to catch... Lake trout, catfish, burbot, and kokes.

If someone is only fly fishing in the contest they're sure going to be in dead last place.

Why don't we have one for the master baiters and one for the people who only fly fish during this time of season???? [crazy][crazy][crazy]

Well you might be the only one looking for a fly contest right now. If there was enough interest in the fly contest I would be willing to run it again. But over time you realize that by making it flies only you exclude members, not include members. Time to break down the barriers and make the contests more friendly to everyone here on BFT!

I know personally that I will be depending on my fly skills for at least 3 species I have in mind for my entries. Luckily I don't have to worry about competing against you again. You usually make it in the top 3 finalists.

I'm with Albino, I think you underestimate the power of the superfly! Held by the right fairy wand flinger, I wouldn't even dream to put my biggest trout up against FGs best. Not to mention what she does with carp, but alas - I don't see a slot for non-game fish here neither?

Big terrestials land big fish at the right time of year. I've seen some nasty mean Wipers landed on a fly that woudl dis the best bass I've seen on spinner or football jig.

I might have to join in just for kicks, since I hope to not only catch cats this year. Doubt my Piggy Kokes will score too many points, but maybe some BL Cutts or Lakers could wanna munch my Cisco "flies" a bit!

Hope your entrants can use a "standard" subject line.
Should be fun, hope you get a good turnout.

Don't bow out too soon. I think this will force you to up your game and test out your skills. Make you work for those big fish and you will/may become an even better angler as well.
