Nicely said, we all owe a lot to those that have been before us and helped us out... and I know what you mean about thinking you're asking too many questions, I'm sure I've drove everyone nuts with all mine... but it's a great site and has for sure helped my fishing ability... Nice of you to make a public statement of appreciation. Most don't. They just take and don't give back.
Those of us who do a lot of the answering were once asking the same questions that all newbies ask. And if we are honest we are properly grateful for the help we got...directly or indirectly.
I have accumulated a few years and fortunately I still have a reasonably good memory. And I have had the good fortune to have experienced a whole lot of fishing over the years. My successes and enjoyment have largely been the result of others (often complete strangers) taking the time to help me learn new waters, new species and new techniques.
For all the help I have been given I am indeed grateful. And I would be ungrateful indeed if I did not pay it forward. Knowing that someone else appreciates it makes it all worthwhile.
We do indeed have a treasure of "seasoned" angling veterans on our boards. Somehow we have evolved more into a forum of friendly assistance than one of endless arguments over pointless issues...which are more common. That's why I still stick around. And I gotta admit, I continue to learn new things from other members all the time. That's a good thing.

I will say "You're Welcome"! I too have received and have given help here. It is one of those "what goes around comes around" features. I am happy to help those that ask and need it. I have hellped several out on the shores of different lakes and will continue to do so. Hey it's fishing, a hobby, a sport, a craft, a passtime, and a way of life. Knowledge is knowldege and if its not passed along it may be lost.

My experience is similar. I didn't get hooked on fishing until I was in my middle thirties. I had little to no knowledge about how to fish. This site was one of my go to places to ask questions and get answers that have helped my gradually improve my skill as an angler. I still have a long way to go. I echo a big "Thank you".

I don't often ask questions and haven't been out much the last couple of years so no reports. However, I am a regular reader and eagerly await the answers when others ask the questions.
Although I have only twice personally basked in his radiance, I consistently seek his words of wisdom and mirth on this forum. I consider myself most fortunate to have possession of a few longer treatises he has shared with his followers.
As a direct result, I have been blessed with some small renown (very, very small) for finding finned creatures in the abyss know as Utah Lake. Few take note when I pay homage to the great "TubeDude". It bothereth me little as the fishes fill my basket while the masses cast about in vain.
My mouth waters even now as I remember past offerings of kitty krispies.

Another shout out to TubeDude as any time I've had a question about UL or catfish he has obliged. That is especially helpful considering I only got serious about fishing at 40 and am new to UL only last season. Thanks again!

This forum is at its best when techniques and advice are shared. I agree 100% that TubeDude is more than willing to share information on techniques and even shares some of his hand made goodies. There are several on here that share information, maps or whatever. wiperhunter2 is also one to help but only if you fish Willard Bay. I too have learned and enjoyed good company. I will add my thank you to yours.

I would like to add my sentiment as well to this thread. I am a long time lurker of this website, always been to afraid to get on and ask advice, and as a "younger gentleman" do not have a lot of advice to give. So again, thanks to all you great people that decide to impart of your knowledge! Some day I will look to carry on the torch! But until then, HAPPY FISHING TO ALL!!! [fishon]

The best (and most polite) way to ask for advice on the internet is to make an incorrect statement about how to do something. If you want to learn about slip bobber rigs, start a thread with: "Went 2 Strawberry and fished a slipper bobber rig with the bobber on my main line and a hook on the same main line but every time I cast the hook and bait would stick inside the bobber.....someone told me that I never under any circumstances need to use a bobber stop so I don't use those. How can I catch more kokanee from shore with powerbait?"
You'll have a gold mine within a few minutes.
