Early Strawberry Bonus
#1
My friend Larry and I went up to strawberry this morning thinking we could dodge the rain and get some fishing in on one of the few days the sun might shine a bit. We arrived at East Portal at 7:00am and there were lots of clouds and a bit of wind. We got our kick boats in the water anyway and started fishing. Not fast action but the first fish I caught was a 19 inch rainbow. They are so fat and sassy. He fought well and I thought if that was the only fish I caught all day the trip was worth it.
However, I was about to get a bonus. I hooked into a big fish with my white fly and the fight was on. I could not bring the bugger in. I must have battled the fish for 10 minutes before I saw him. It was another big rainbow. Not a record, but for me, this was a trophy. A 21 inch fat bow. I went on to catch about 6 more fish. A couple more rainbows and some nice cuts, all in the slot. This was a great start to my Strawberry fly fishing season. I can't wait to get back up there.
