Has anyone been to Hawkins or Sublett lately? I'd like to know what the water levels are and if it is worth planning a trip in early June. I know Sublett doesn't open until tomorrow but I would just like to know how much water is in there.
Thanks for any information anyone might have.

I fished Hawkins in a float tube 3 weeks ago, using conventional gear. I don't have much history with Hawkins, but I'd say the water level seemed normal for a SE Idaho reservoir this time of year. (The water line was about 15' down from the top of dam, and it was around 20' horizontal distance off the tree line on the shores.) The water was stained but not murky, and the fishing was good but not great. I averaged about 1 rainbow per hour, all in the 12"-14" range. Best action was near the dam. I didn't see anyone else taking home a bag limit for day, mostly because there seemed to be few large fish in the reservoir right now.

First of all welcome to the forum.
Thanks for the information about Hawkins. I'm also planning on fishing from a tube but I'll be using fly tackle. I haven't fished it in three years so I need to get back there and give it another try. I'm not going for a couple more weeks so the water should clear up a bit by then. Did you pick up any cutthroats? The photo is of one I caught the last time I was there.[inline P1010619(1).JPG]
Thanks again for your help.

That's a nice, fat cut. It was all 'bows for me when I was there. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out if you head to Hawkins!

Considering the rain we are getting, my guess is that both reservoirs should still have good water in three weeks. Sublett might be fuller than Hawkins as it has a better and larger watershed.
Both have also been stocked with catchables this spring.
Either should be okay, depending on the weather at the time you go.
Good luck!

Hawkins was great today! There were 5 boats on the reservoir, and all were catching fish continuously. Many small (12-15") rainbows and a few cuts. I had luck all over the water, but I some of the shore fisherman were reporting little action. Crank baits were hot for me; crawlers seemed to be doing well for others.
