Sure don't want to over-do the reporting on Utah Lake and I ain't just postin' to brag... but, I hit Lincoln again this a.m. and caught cats faster than I could handle two poles. I fished alone today cuz by crew was tied up in a church activity. Bridger handled it okay but Carsen balked and was contemplating either atheism or a new religion. They will be with me next time out.
Arrived at about 6:00 and fished until guilt made me quit. I caught so many cats I just chucked most of them back in the water... kept a few for a photo session and then all were returned to the water. I left at 8:30 and never saw another fool on the water. Most of the cats were battered males, biggest going about 27 inches and 8 pounds. Caught them on carp and wb but I really think almost any bait would catch them now.
Attached a couple of photos of the cats and another of the way I prep wb for fishing. When the frozen chunks thaw out all the juices are still there and the cats hone in on them like bloodhounds. I do the same thing with frozen carp. An old band saw does the trick. Good bait but a dozen crawlers from Wal Mart would probably work just as well.
If you have family or kids who would like to have some fast cat action now is the time. I was anchored in 6 feet of water and throwing toward shore. Water temp 69 degrees.
Get 'em while they are hot!
