One more UL report
#1
Sure don't want to over-do the reporting on Utah Lake and I ain't just postin' to brag... but, I hit Lincoln again this a.m. and caught cats faster than I could handle two poles. I fished alone today cuz by crew was tied up in a church activity. Bridger handled it okay but Carsen balked and was contemplating either atheism or a new religion. They will be with me next time out.

Arrived at about 6:00 and fished until guilt made me quit. I caught so many cats I just chucked most of them back in the water... kept a few for a photo session and then all were returned to the water. I left at 8:30 and never saw another fool on the water. Most of the cats were battered males, biggest going about 27 inches and 8 pounds. Caught them on carp and wb but I really think almost any bait would catch them now.

Attached a couple of photos of the cats and another of the way I prep wb for fishing. When the frozen chunks thaw out all the juices are still there and the cats hone in on them like bloodhounds. I do the same thing with frozen carp. An old band saw does the trick. Good bait but a dozen crawlers from Wal Mart would probably work just as well.

If you have family or kids who would like to have some fast cat action now is the time. I was anchored in 6 feet of water and throwing toward shore. Water temp 69 degrees.

Get 'em while they are hot!

You are really on those big cats. Wish I lived closer I'd surely be down there playin' with the kitties. Good reports lately.

Don't you even think of not posting your reports. We love readin' 'em. Looks like you made a major haul this time, and all alone too. Amazing.

I like your method for the bait fish. I'll have to put on old blade on my bandsaw.

Great report , I really enjoy your reports. However I should point out that there is a daily bag limit of 8 channel cats (you mentioned you were alone) Your pic shows atleast 14. No5t complaining mind you, just hate to see you get fined

Okay, I'm a criminal... but I have my defense all prepared: first, I claim ignorance -- that always works... then diminished capacity; maybe senility??, or, how 'bout the devil made me do it?... lastly, stupidity.

Others have pointed out my flagrant violation of the limit on cats and I appreciate the heads up warning. I do not take the fishing laws lightly but I assumed I was in compliance as long as I returned all of the fish to the sea. Not so. It is illegal to have more than 8 in possession at any time.

Guess I learn something every day about channel cats... now I even know the possession limits[blush]
To those who pointed out my error, a respectful and sincere thanks. I would much rather be educated here than on a citation.

I'm goin' fishin' now.

I know how to fix that. If your normal crew can't join ya time for a temporary ship mate.[angelic]

[#0000FF]Or maybe bring along a couple of "blow up dolls". It sometimes works for the guys who like to drive in the HOV lanes on the freeway...until a sharp-eyed officer spots the fake. Might be tough to find one that can hold a fishing rod...in her hands.
