WB Lovers !!!!!!!!!

Fished yesterday at the American Fork River outlet and caught 119 whitebass in a few hours. Arrived there at about 3:00pm and fished until 5pm, the fish were still biting. The last hour was none stop every cast and you could even see the whitebass swimming around you.

There were about 8 other people there that probably caught around 200 or more fish each but they got there before me and stayed after me so who knows how many more they actually caught.

Went after work so I forgot a basket and a stringer but Thank you to all the nice fisherman out there! One guy gave me a stringer that I offered to pay for but he declined payment. Great guy!

If you love whitebass NOW is the time!!!!!!!!

I'm headed there in a couple of hours... don't suppose you have any tips on lures/bait?

you want to use a red jig head with a all green jig with sparkles. the smaller jigs worked best but they are hitting almost everything. Key is a slower reel speed and cast where you see the current flowing into the lake. they are really close and you do not have to cast that far. There should be lots of people there today that are regulars so watch them or ask them they are a good group of people and will help you.

that seems awesome. i am looking to go out to utah lake and try my luck for white bass. not sure exactly what the american fork outlet is, but i hope to find them. is it recommended to have waders fishing utah lake? i have always targeted trout in other areas and never really bothered with utah.

[#0000FF]The American Fork River flows into Utah Lake just west of the harbor. You can park outside the gate and walk down to the fishing area. No waders needed in water above about 65. No swimmers' itch.

Here's a map.

all of the inlets are pretty hot right now, AF, Provo river, hobble, or SP. Was out there in my boat yesterday and did well; shorefishers, waders doing well also. IF you wade and don't have a boat, I'd recommend that...get away from the shore crowds a little in your waders. the WB aren't too selective, I was catching them on a small spinnerbait in 2-3' of water, also they'll hit small to medium jigs, spinners, spoons, and small cranks. enjoy and bon appetite!

I have my own post coming featuring some WB fishing in the AF harbor and subsequent fish tacos, but I'll say for now that I was catching them on anything that moved when we first showed up. Almost everyone there was using a chartreuse curly tail. That's what got me the most success as well, although I did catch a few on a chrome kastmaster with chartreuse reflective tape, which I put on when the wind picked up and blew my light jigs around on every cast.

Heading back sometime soon and hoping to load up again using a tandem rig with curly tails in chartreuse and maybe orange. I was using chartreuse 1/8oz lead heads, as well as black 1/16oz heads. Didn't seem to matter which, they both got lots of love.

I've heard mixed reports. General consensus though seems to be that the spawn is winding down.

I'm sure you can still catch some, but it might not be action on every cast anymore. I'd recommend trying AF river inlet. It's very close to the AF boat harbor (look on Google Earth, you can't miss it). I was there a week ago today and it was two fish per cast on a tandem rig when we showed up.
