Could this mean new NM For Utah?

Well this is interesting.

When I first found out some info on this I was thinking ok it is a small area south of natural bridges NM. Watching this and reading this article means no it is a lot more. It will cover most of San Jaun county entailing National forest, BLM, and NP lands. I can see protecting some areas especially those with archaeological significance, but all of it?

Here's a map of the area. Close up and wider views. Also the proposed boundaries of the NM.

why not? I kind of like it.

People complained about the Grand Staircase -- but without that national monument we wouldn't have access all those millions of acres today. Instead, we'd see oil rigs and fences keeping us out.

national monument = public land for YOU and ME to recreate on!

I'm game, looking at the map who would administer it seeing how all three agencies (NPS, BLM, USFS) all have a claim in it?

More on this issue. Looks like Mr Bishop and Mr Chaffetz are involved in getting some legislation going. This article on KSL is most intriguing. The Bears ears area in question would get a national conservation area designation, dinosaur NM would become a NP, and a new monument formed down by Cleveland Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry. Something to watch more closely.

Rob Bishop has been telling us this for four years and nothing has been submitted. I favor the Bears Ears initiative as being proposed by the tribes. If we wait on Bobble Head, we'll wait a long time.
