redmond pike on the 31
#1
Ok guy I know most are thinking ice. but I'm thinking pike. on the 31 I'm going to redmond to fish for pike and am willing to show and help all that I can for those who would like to know a bit about how to get them there.

for those that do show up I plan on having a big pot of my chili for all those that would like some. redmond is a ways to go but it's one of the few places in utah that you can get pike at. and the place you have the best chance to get one. most pike are in the 15 to 18 range but there are some bigger ones also.

so plan on coming and meet us there.(I know that some of the guys from hooked are going)

driving directions from salt lake from www.mapquest.com:

you can get there from I-15 via scippio, get off the freeway at scippio and take the highway headed to salina when you come to salina go to the flashing stop light turn left and head north. look for the sign that says redmond it is the last lefthand turn headed north out of salina, look for some brown storage units. when you come to redmond you need to try and work your way to the knoll on the west side of town that knoll overlooks redmond res.

you can also get there via gunnison, get off the south (3rd) nephi exit, and turn left then head south till you come to levan just after the bend in the road turn south, (at the gas station) then jsut keep your course through fayette gunnison ect, look for a sign that says redmond and another road shoots off the highway, take that road it will be a right hand road that will take you to the center of redmond then work your way to the knoll again.

also you can launch a small alumimun boat there if you want to try that way.

it is a quite a drive but the pike fishing is well worth it.

I have friends going to Fish Lake then, maybe I'll tell them to stop by. Do you have to have a boat? I imagine it gets deeper very slowly from the shorelines. I'll keep in touch.

most of the time I use ancovs, minnows, chubs. rigged in a shinner set up. I'll try and post a pick of that later. ater that I like to use spoons in about a med size colors I like red and white of 5 of dimonds. next spinnerbaitsthen so on. sometimes the hit anything that goes past them. and as for a boat. you gan get smaller boats there the south end of the lake gets shollow and there are a few islands out there so if you take a boat dont go past the last few islands. and if you bring a boat or float tube you can sit over the warm springs by the an island we call pike island and do good.

just rember guy's and gal's that pike are the top of the food chane and are not that EZ to catch.. but if you work it a little you can get 3 or 4 a day there at redmonds..but it dose have it's bad day's like any other lake.. from what i have seen there this year the water level was very low so maybe some of the food in the lake was lost or some of the pike were lost becaus all the reports i'v got from there this year have be it's slow..but when i was there 2 weeks ago we caught 2 in about 4 hrs so thats about as good as it ever is there.. i hope i can make it down but still have to see whats going on with work first..

well then ill plan on it. is anchovies the only way to catch them this time of year? i just really have no experience with pike and if i need them ill pick some up. im stubborn and will try my traditional ways to test them out but if they dont work then i better have a back up. look forward to seeing you there if you can go.

one more thing for all of you that are going to fish bait there.. you do need steel leaders but not 40 lbs.. try and find steel leaders in the 10 lbs to 20 lbs rainge.. it just to keep there teeth from cutting you line.. if your want to run hardware out there i would want 15 to 20 lbs test line.. that way you can get your hard bait's back some of the times..you don't have to run a steel leader with hard bait but there is alot of things on the bottom that will snag you up so the heaver line will help some that way..
