2016 Utah Fishing Proposals
#1
Next week, the state's Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) will begin holding meetings to gather public feedback on our recommendations for Utah's 2016 fishing rules and regulations. You can review those recommendations on pages 2–3 at the following link: http://wildlife.utah.gov/public_meetings...packet.pdf

We really aren't proposing substantial changes this year. The biggest change would affect when you can keep kokanee salmon. There's more about that proposed change at the bottom of the following news release: http://wildlife.utah.gov/wildlife-news/1...sults.html

We received a lot of feedback in our 2015 survey, and we will be reviewing those responses for some additional changes next year. The RAC schedule is listed below. If you have feedback about the 2016 proposals, please try to attend one of the meetings:

Thanks Amy. Not many changes being proposed (other than standardizing the kokanee regulations). I was hoping that the use of corn, at least on some bodies of water would be proposed.

I totally agree. I was hoping to see corn added to the list of legal baits. For those who haven't used it for kokanees, they will never know what they are missing and how effective it can be. Plus, it's a misconception most people buy into about it killing fish by clogging them up with undigested corn. They digest it just like we do, most of it goes straight through!
Other proposed regs seem pretty reasonable to me.

I'm not going to go to any of the rac meetings to propose this, but I am disappointed that Utah does not have a 1 day license option. I have a friend who is divorced with young kids (some over 12) and I wanted to take them fishing. But to make more money utah only offers a 3 day license. That doubled the amount it would have cost her and she couldn't afford it.
