Muzzleloader Elk

I am kind of new to this so forgive my ignorance. Is there and advantage to hunting the muzzloader season for elk? It is later in the year. Just curious. Thanks in advance.

Generally the late seasons bring elk out of the high country and into their winter ranges - of course with lower temp you could be hunting in snow and the meat will not be subject to spoilage from heat and insects.
