Probably to thin for you but you forgot that I weigh like a feather.

If you ever have any free time on the weekend we should hit the hard deck together. It's been over 1-2 years since we've fished together.

Did you tie those ice "flies"? What are those little white things on the end?

Sorry FFL, but I think I beat you to the punch. There was 3 inches of good black ice and 2-3 of clouded. Ice was thinner in places. Anyone venturing out should exercise extreme caution. Fishing was on fire for little bows with the occasional tiger and brookie. Also caught my first grayling and golden trout through the ice.

good job, way to go, and Kudos on the grayling. I hate being "That" guy, cause I'm just a lurker, but pretty sure your "golden" is a juvie rainbow. You don't have to agree, but you might check it out.

It very well could have been. I knew the lake I was fishing has goldens but looking back at the photo I think you might be right. Guess I can't check that species off the list... Yet.

I must have missed it.. Where are you fishing? And, can somebody tell me when the ice will be on Strawberry (a bit more than in the photos above) :-) I'm actually thinking of removing my sanity all together and trying this whole Ice Fishing thing out. It looks dang cold, but I would expect that with the right gear and wind protection, and heaters, and maybe building a house on the ice, a person could have quite the fun time ice fishing..

This was a lake in the Unitas. Does anyone if the mirror lake highway will be open after the storm today? Trying to make a trip up there Wednesday.

Well... if we're gonna vote. I vote juvenile Rainbow Trout. There's only a couple of lakes that hold Golden Trout in Utah. And they're notoriously difficult to get to with 4 wheel drive in perfect conditions. I'd say darn near impossible now.

I would give the kamas ranger station a call. They will know for sure.

The only way to decide the winner of this pissing contest is to have a selfie on the ice holding up the daily news with the date plainly in view.

I will stay out of the discussion on who was first, but since folks are voting on what the fish was, I will chime in there. I will go with a bow, but here is how you can tell. I have caught a bunch of the freshly planted Goldens they have put in, and they are often quite washed out and not as colorful as expected. However, they all DO have a orange belly. As far as I can tell on your pic, your fish doesn't, thus a bow. (see pic below for a golden) If your fish did have an orange or reddish belly, then you may have done it.
Hope this helps and please be safe.
