Just looked over the Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) decal requirements.

Looks like some of you Kayakers will need a sticker:

2015 Boating and Watercraft Fees

Boaters can purchase a yearly pass for $30 for their vessel or $16 for a 1 to 7 day pass. Vessel fees will change Jan. 1, 2016. See the bottom of this page for the changes.

In addition some watercraft are required to purchase an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) decal for their craft, which is NOT AVAILABLE at the park. You must purchase prior to arrival through the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW). This is a requirement regardless of whether you launch from Nevada or Arizona. Watercraft registered in Arizona are exempt for the decal requirement within the Lake Mead NRA. All non-registered vessels must display an AIS decal.

To find out if your vessel requires an AIS decal check these informative graphics - Needs a Sticker - Does Not Need a Sticker.

To purchase this decal please visit the NDOW website at www.ndowlicensing.com (service fees apply) OR Toll Free at (866) 703-4605 (service fee applies)

The water craft below need a sticker if you are on Lake Mead & Mohave.

What about Utah boats? I don't see how nevada can enforce this on shared lakes.

I see Arizona is exempt, so other states must be too.

Let me check with NDOW and get the answer.

Wyoming doesn't enforce their sticker on the utah side of the Gorge. I wonder if NV tries to enforce this lakewide. And if AZ allows that.

This is from an email I got from NDOW:

California and Arizona boaters are exempt from the decal requirements only when they are boating in the interstate waters of Lake Mead and Mohave (for AZ registered boats) and Lake Tahoe (for CA registered boats). If an Arizona boater goes up to Tahoe, then they need a decal and if a CA boater comes to Mead, then they need a decal. If these boaters boat in any other water in the state, then they need a decal. We don’t have an interstate water with Utah, so they are not exempt.

See the link below for more info. You’ll have to scroll down a bit to get the explanation.

AZ must have agreed to this. But I see an enforcement problem. People come to Mead through AZ and launch their boat. They have an AZ fishing license. Then they get on the water and NV is after them for a sticker they never heard about. Bam $300 fine.

Just to clarify - $30 for an annual pass to Lake Mead and Colorado River right? The AIS stickers for kayakers is only $5, so as long as you don't have a motor.

[cool]The $30 annual pass is for your vehicle. As long as you don't have a motor on your kayak you don't have to pay for a pass for it. You do have to have the AIS sticker for your kayak. It is $5 for residents and $10 for nonresidents. Any boat going into lake mead recreation area has to have an AIS sticker.

Except AZ. Good reason to register your boat there.
