Thinking about heading up to Porcupine tomorrow ( Sat ). Anybody know if you can still drive up and around the lake ? I know there's a gate near the dam that they usually lock during the winter. Wanna bank fish so hopefully there's no ice forming that would hamper my efforts. Thanks for any info !

The only locked gate on the road I know of is the church camp at Cinnamon Creek in the head of the reservoir and it's locked in the summer too... You should be fine to go up there tomorrow and I'm sure you won't have ice up there yet. The pig is one of the last to tack over... I know it's going to be really cold tonight, but I doubt we'll see any ice on the main lakes yet... If any, it will be Mantua.... I think Cutler will see some ice, but it's not any good for ice fishing so I think we're still a ways away from ice fishing... But keep the fire burning tonight it's a chilly one... Later J

I don't know why but I can't get them to bite even when I find them. Spent a half dozen trips before I gave up on them and the currents out here makes the ice scary, you have to be really careful and check thickness often because the shallow water means any current cuts the ice thinner.
Were you in a boat when you found the crappie and did you find more than one or two a trip? We used to get great fall crappie here but now I only find one or two a trip. Maybe you'll be able to figure out a trick I couldnt. If so I wouldn't mind a PM at least saying neener neener. Good luck J
