Went to Echo today looking for perch didn't get out until about 2:00 PM. So pretty late still got into some in about 40 feet of water using meal worms and perch eyeballs on jigheads.

I haven't fished at Echo for a number of years, so good to hear that some fish are being taken. I'll have to try it again. Any size to your perch? Did you try for the trout too?

Nothing impressive about 7-9 inchers mostly and a couple real small ones that I threw back. But enough for a nice dinner. Had a pole about about half way up from the bottom for maybe a cruising trout but didn't get any hits.

tks for your info...I was at Pineview on Sat. and did real good there A.M. on the 8.5 to 9.5" crappies...no braggers, but good fillets for the pan...may go there again soon, or try Rockport or Hyrum for the trout and perch combo possibilities...Good luck!

I hit Echo on Saturday and found a lot of frustrated fishermen near the boat ramp. I walked past them all and set up close to the middle in 38 FOW. Took 1.5 hours to lure in a school of them but then the perch were hitting within the first 4 seconds after my lure got to the bottom. Sizes were mixed but got a few nice 9-10 inch fatties. Ended with 37 perch for dinner and 0 trout in about 3 hours. I did see a few larger fish come through about 20-22 feet down but other than one that broke my 4lb line they weren't interested in anything I had.
The ice was good and clear but I wouldn't want to take a snow machine out near the middle or by the dam. Still not thick enough for my liking with those heavy toys.
I used a Hali tipped with a tiny piece of perch meat worked great (see pic). Drop it down and dead stick it for 10 seconds. If you haven't landed a perch by then, lift it up 10 ft or so and drop it down to 1" off the bottom again. The perch were hitting it so fast I couldn't set the jaw jacker before the bite!

Yeah I saw a lot of people by the ramp when I was there and none really looked like they were having any luck. It took me about 30 min to get them to start hitting but once they started they didn't really stop. My problem was I couldn't hook them cause some were barely hitting it. And I would deadstick for 10-15 sec then jig hard and they would usually hit as soon as I stopped the jigging. I also caught like a 2 inch perch I thought it was pretty cool haha.
