I am about 95 % sure I am going to purchase a 2- 2/12 horse motor. At this point I am looking at Honda 4 stroke they have it in a 2.3.( 4 stroke is my preference)
Never having a decent motor before I would like some constructive thoughts to help with the decision process. I am open for comments.
I know there are a half dozen manufactures with good products. I would like to hear from some of you with a knowledge of them.
I'm not against spending a hundred or so from one brand to another. I just want a good one.
Thanks , Richard

Last spring I bought a 6hp Nisson 4 stroke for 1395.00 . It gets real good gas mileage . I use it to troll with an 18' inboard outboard . I bought it on line with free shipping .

I have a Honda 8hp, 4 stroke. It is a great motor, BUT, if I were to do it again, I would choose Mercury 4 stroke. Why? Well, to get the Honda worked on you MUST use a Honda dealer since I don't know anyone who will touch them....including Lee's Marine, who is the "motor master" in my opinion. Anyway, Honda parts are even more expensive than other outboard motor manufacturers and the parts can't be bought anywhere unless it is a Honda authorized dealer. Its just a pain all around. Buy a Merc, where its not only reliable, but cheaper and easier to maintain in the long run.

All Mercury motors up to 15 hp are made by The same company that makes Nisson . The only difference is the decal .

I always try to buy from an American company when I can. You can't beat the performance and reliability of a Mercury. The guys on this website put me on to a great dealer, Lee's Marine in Hyrum.

I was in the market for a trolling motor as wellm. I had the Honda 2.3 in my list but ended up getting the Suzuki 2.5hp. Reason I chose the zuki was because of price and noise. The Honda is air cooled which is nice in that you don't need to do much maintainence on it but it makes it louder than water cooled motors. I got my zuki for $760 shipped brand new the Honda would've set me back $950 brand new. All my research has been done online didn't actually see or hear the Honda run in real life but you can read all the reviews on them
. Good luck..
