Deer Creek
#1
I was thinking of going to Deer Creek at Charleston in the morning. Does anyone know if the ice conditions have improved, since the last post saying the ice was sketchy.

I drove by yesterday and it looked like the edges were pretty soft as water was exposed. It was plenty cold, but it could be because the lake is rising. Rainbow Bay looked ok.

I had to call in sick so I could go to Lake Powell!

Thanks. Yeah I was there last Saturday at Charleston and the ice was fine, just a little slushy as I got closer to the channel. So I was surprised to hear the report at Rainbow Bay, but it has been warmer and I believe last Saturday afternoon it rained befofe changing to snow at Deer Creek.
I left around 11:00 AM. Our group had caught 10 nice rainbows.

I was the one that fell through at rainbow bay on Monday. It was super warm all day on monday while we were there. there was a group of kids that were playing hockey in rainbow bay on Saturday. On Monday i walked over to their rink they had shoveled off and it was covered in several inches of slush.

I know it's been warm since Monday as well. I know you won't catch me going back onto the ice at deer creek until there is a good cold spell. That was too close of a call for me.

I agree. It's better to be safe than sorry! I just talked with a friend who lives in Wallsburg and he said people are still out on the ice at Snow's marina, Rainbow Bay, and at the island. As of yesterday when he drove by the reservoir. I'll check it out in the morning. If it's not safe. Then we will go to Strawberry. The guy I'm going with just wants a few for dinner, so Strawberry is not so desirable.

I fished Jordanelle on Saturday 1-23, I had my 4 wheeler all over hailstone bay with no trouble at all. Quite a few other machines out on the ice, its 12" thick in most places. We caught quite a few pan sized rainbows. Seems like we found the most fish in back of the bay on north west side, in 12 FOW. They took anything tipped with a mealworm.

Fished Wallsburg bay on Tuesday night with a buddy. We fished from 10:00pm until 2:00 am, right in the creek channel, 15 FOW. Marked a lot of fish, they were very picky, we only caught 1/2 dozen rainbows, Orange jigs were the color the fish wanted. The ice is a solid 8", there is 2" of water on top of that, and two inches of snow/slush on top of that. We had no trouble getting on and off the ice. The edges are fine. Ice is 10" thick right off the main marina ramp down and around sailboat beach. I work in Heber and its been anywhere from 10 to -8 degrees in the mornings this last week. There was a group that walked all the way across from the marina to fish the north side, safe ice all the way across.

The Wasatch Back Quad Fishalon is holding it's second leg of the tournament tomorrow (1/30).

I am wonder if I should skip out or bring a plank to get out past the shore?

I got on this morning just fine at the last parking spot near the island, inside the island state park. Fishing was great, catching not so much. I wanted to cross to the RR side but a slush layer about 3/4 way across scared me so I fished near the highway side. Marked a few fish, nothing interested in my presentations.
