Howdy All,
I'm headed down to Cancun/Playa del Carmen in a couple weeks for a vacation and would love to do some fishing while there. Not much of a fan of trolling, but would love to do some bottom/jig fishing. Anyone been down there and have a charter they'd recommend?
Thanks,
Jon

Sounds like a fun adventure, I look forward to your report after. Sorry I've never been there so I can't help with a recommendation. Later J

I have fished there 2 times, in Feb., both times trolling on a charter. 1 roster fish , 1 dorado 1 barracuda
I did see a bunch of big tarpon when I was snorkeling.

Beautiful-Fish, thanks for the insight here. What charters did you use? Would you use them again?

If you're willing and able, you HAVE to give spearfishing a try down there. Look up Leo with SpearfishingToday.com. He's based out of Playa, though he runs charters out of several locations on the Maya Riviera.
We've been down a couple times. Hands down the best excursion and memories we've had down there! He does a great job with newbies, showing you the ropes and taking you to easy locations. Nothing like combining snorkeling with hunting and fishing all at once. You've got to give it a try!

If I was much of a swimmer, that spearfishing looks pretty fun.
Any others who have fished down there with a charter they recommend?

Sorry it's been a couple of years so I did not save the info on the charter. It was only $125 for a half day with 2 other people.
The resort made the contact, it was all spur of the moment, but worth the money. Yes I would do it again. Nice cabin boat.
