Picudo Sportfishing Cabo San Lucas Report
#1
Here we are in March with the season change in full swing and heading fullspeed into our Spring fishing! The sea temps are holding at 70 degrees in the Pacific and up to 73 in the Sea of Cortez. The fishing varies daily and the majority of the fleet is taking advantage of the inshore fishing. From the Faro Viejo up to Elias Calles the variety of fish is fantastic. The Sierra are biting and are quality size from 4 - 12 pounds. They are fickle biters and the boys are using different techniques from chunk bait chumming to sewed bait ballyhoos with a trailing hook, rapalas, and hoochies. The best bite seems to be up by Poso de Cota and the area from the Lighthouse up to Pedregalito. They are moving daily so its a must to try all areas. Mixed in are Jack Cravelle, Pargos, and the Roosters are thick in some areas. The fishing offshore has been a pick although some of the boys are nailing them. The Doarado are very spotty and the bites seem to be farther out in the 5-7 mile range. These fish are running fair size up to 30 lbs. The Striped Marlin bite is fair with the majority of the fish still being caught closer in from 1 - 3 miles from shore. The bait is moving daily but the hotspots seem to be from Cabo Falso up past Los Arcos. The afternoon winds are bringing us quite a few tailers and those with sharpeyes are being rewarded . The wind is wrapping around and the fish are being spotted from the MigriƱo area all the way down to Cabeza Ballena. Live bait casting with fresh Mackeral is the ticket and 60 - 80 pound flouro carbon leaders a must. Inside the Sea of Cortez off san jose its been a little slower with the majority of the fleet opting to fish the Sierras and Roosters in tight or make the run down towards the Pacific side. With the sea temps dropping and the full moon behind us the bite should go off! It wont be long till we start running more out front and inside the sea of Cortez! Gotta love Spring! Here we go!!!
