I have an 02 yamaha vmax. Ran the motor while having someone winterize it this last year and discovered that it wasn't spitting out water. Guy said it was the water pump impeller. Does anyone have experience replacing these? I've looked online but I dont really have the confidence with boat motors to attempt. The part is like $30 but got quoted $300 from a repair shop. Hoping that someone knows a cheaper place or I would pay someone to come out and replace it for me. Thanks in advance.

If you can work on cars and motors, get a book or look on utube, it's really not that hard to change the impeller. I did mine on my 20 hp. mercury and it went fine with just the book. yea it seems crazy a 20 dollar rubber part and 300 in labor. that's why I did it myself. good luck with what ever you do.

I have a 150hp Yamaha HDPI of the same vintage as yours and I replaced the impeller for around $30, but I also replaced the entire housing since it looked old to me for another $20. Just basic tool (sockets) required and it went very easy. There are Youtube videos and I followed them and I had no problem whatsoever!
Good luck and save yourself a bundle of money by doing it yourself.
