Strawberry 04-20-2016
#1
It's been a super long time since my last post but I wanted to give everyone a quick report on Strawberry. My buddy and I got there around 7 this morning and kind of did some scoutin to see where all of the ice was starting to come off. We cruised over by the marina to see what it looked like over there and it's still locked up pretty tight. Mud Creek was open quite a ways out and I saw a few guys fishing it as we drove by.

We decided to go try some parts of Chicken Creek and there was some spots that's had 40 to 50 yards of open water. We started fishing around 7:30 and the temp outside was about 20° but it felt warmer when the sun was out. We had quite a few bites and some that we really should have landed. I ended up catching 3 Cutts all around 18-20' and 1 Rainbow that was about 17'. I was fishing one pole with Salmon Peach power bait and the other 3 I caught on just an 1/8 ounce black maribou jig. The ones I caught jigging were all just picking it up, they weren't really attacking it or anything. Also all of my bites were probably 5-10 feet out from shore just past the weed beds, so they were pretty shallow. My buddy ended up catching another Cutt about the same size as the others.

It wasn't the fast and the furious but it was still a gorgeous morning and it for sure beat going to school and work! Best of luck to y'all and I hope this helps.[fishon]
