Willard Bay today
#1
Decided I would try to get my trip to Willard before another front moved in. Trolled the usual speeds in the usual places with the usual lures. Didn't do much. One small wiper and one catfish for Kelly. We decided to try the crappie out. Wasn't red hot by any means but managed 7 with one being a hog. Maybe by next week if the weather ever calms down.

[#0000FF]Nice, Brent.

Better to smell fish than skunk...even on a slow day.

I agree. The crappie were fat and healthy. This may be the last good year for crappie for a couple years the say, I hope it isnt but either way its nice to catch 14 inch crappie.

[#0000ff]I caught a couple of 14s early this year. But I caught quite a few...and even one 15 last year. Those are nice crappies anywhere...except for Arizona where I used to catch them up to 19 inches.

Based upon personal observations and feedback from DWR there doesn't seem to be many (if any) smaller year classes in Willard this year. We will still have some large ones next year...of the survivors of this year's 12 inchers. But it might be bleak for a couple of years after that.

Hoping that the rising water and flooded vegetation will help bring off a good spawn with the abundant adults this year.

The water was definitely higher and a lot of flooded vegetation so they should get a good spawn this year. Might take awhile but hoping to see the lakes fill up. Utah Lake has been filling slower than I had hoped too.

[#0000FF]Up until a little over a week ago they were pouring more water out of UL than was coming in. Had to fill Salt Lake enough to be able to get the sailboats back in the marina. Wonder how many feet of UL water it takes to raise Salt Lake a foot.

Hopefully they will go ahead and bring UL up now.
