Willard May 15
#1
I am a new member to the forum. Tried to create an account a few months ago but it would always link to an ad.
Since that time I have been soaking in the knowledge on many on the forum, thank you to TubeDude, Rabb and others. Up until this soring I ate nothing but skunk at Willard and techniques that worked elsewhere were coming up empty.
This season I have bank tangled and rock hopped just about every piece of the reservoir and found fish each trip. The cats have come very easy, even when fishing crappie jigs with Gulp. I have been amazed to see that the majority of the cats are healthy and big. I think the smallest I have caught there was 16". TubeDudes bead trick has been deadly on kitties.
I landed, Sunday, what has been my largest Wiper at 22". I dont know what it weighed but it was an awesome fight. Also fell victim to a crappie jig.
The walleye have so far eluded me at Willard, lost on at the net Sunday. I have not fished there at night though.

Welcome to BFT. Sounds like you are starting to get a handle on Willard. Just remember she changes a lot. She likes to keep us guessing. I will look forward to your posts. Good luck!!

[#0000ff]Welcome aboard. Thanks for the kindly comments. Glad I have been able to contribute to your delinquency...if not your success.

With a user name like squawminnow I suspect you may have spent time in Washington or Oregon.

The Squawminnow name was really more the 16 year Army vet in me fighting ever increasing political correctness. It wasn't too long ago the regs listed "Squawfish," but that could be offensive so the same fish is now the Northern Pikeminnow. Some biologist straight out of college likely notched that feather in his/her cap.
I have fished quite a bit in WA and OR though. A weekend of Surf Perch, Flounder, Rockfish, Razor Clams and Oysters is hard to beat. My wife gets upset when we plan vacations and my first thought is " how is the fishing there and can I shoot ducks."
Thank you for the Walleye primer and welcome. I have caught delicious Walleye on the Bear River in both Utah and Idaho, but they are a lot smaller than the fish lurking in Willard.

[#0000FF]Very familiar with the name change thing. Caught lots of the subject species in Oregon, Idaho, California and Arizona. Have never caught any of the endangered Colorado River squawfish/pikeminnow but I understand they used to get over 50 pounds.

I do agree. I have spent a lot of time surf fishing the beaches
[/#0000FF][#0000FF][#0000FF][b] and out on boats for all the available species[/#0000FF] of Northern California and Oregon. I really miss that country and the fishing opportunities.

Good luck on Willard. Look forward to some reports...with fish porn in them.

I don't think anyone is doing very good on the eyes this year at Willard, but a lot of us figured that was going to happen.[:/]
