Hit Pineview around 11 am, late I know. Found a nice spot and carp were all-over the shore. Jumping around and wrestling each other lol at least thats what it looked like. Literally threw my bait and lures on top of them and maybe got a bite. How the heck can I literally be surrounded by them on the bank and not even get a bite? I was using a jig and a lure most of the time. I'm a rookie.

The fish were spawning of they have no desire to eat/bite a lure. What you need is a bow then you can shoot them! Just as fun in my opinion.

I like to make some bait by just mixing some flour and water to make a dough, carp seemed to like that at Adams Reservoir, too bad they drained it.

I found that white flour tortillas stay on the hook better and aren't as messy as doughballs. They seem to catch just as many carp. Fold a silver dollar sized piece of tortilla on a size 6 baitholder hook and fling them with a fly rod for some real fun!

Spawning carp will bite, you just need to use the right bait. I have on very rare occasions accidentally caught carp on a jig - like maybe three times after having fished in carp infested waters all my life. They will take a worm pretty readily but what works really good are boilies. There are all kinds of recipes out there - the one that I like contains the following:

Corn flakes turned to flour in a blender.
Corn juice from a can of corn.
Eggs (they make the dough congeal when boiled)
Anise oil or extract
Food coloring if desired

I am not sure about the quantities I kind of just make a batch by sight (not a lot of Anise oil - maybe 1/4 tsp). Mix ingredients until you have a stiff dough. Roll into long 'ropes' about 1/2" in diameter then cut into 1/2" pieces. Boil and freeze what you are not going to use immediately. Use the same sort of rig you would use for any other dough bait. When there are lots of carp around I just use a treble hook right on the end of my line with no weight. It works really well.
