Jordanelle help please
#1
I hate being one of the only people that doesn't know Jordanelle very well and need some help in finding a good place to fish. I am taking my brother-in-law who is new to fishing and would like to show him a good time catching some perch and maybe some trout. I would like to have a day where we catch more than one or two fish per hour and lots of the posts lately show that the perch fishing there has been good.

Any help on places to go with detailed instructions on where to park, how much it costs to park, and where to drill a hole would be wonderful. I have seen reports on Rock Cliffs and the south shore. I can figure out where rock cliffs is but where exactly on the south shore and how do I access it? I don't have a truck so the access I am talking about is limited to a car.

Don't be shy now, let's hear what you all have to say, good or bad.

Fished Jordanelle the last two weekends. It has been great. Countless perch mixed with trout. Both weeks 20+ trout. We went to the Rock cliff area. If you're coming from Springville, go through Heber, head for Park City, turn right(east) at the stop light at the junction of 40 and 32. Follow the signs up over the hill to Rock cliff state park. Entrance fee is $4. The first week we went there we arrived about 7:00 am. The gate was closed, so we filled out the envelope, and deposited our money, and drove in the exit being careful to miss the tire rippers(only two showing). When the camp cop came to open the gate he came down and checked to make sure everyone had paid. We all had and he was nice enough to tell us where fishing was the best and what to use. Great guy! Next week was a different story. Got there at 7:00, gate closed so we entered just like the week before. This time the camp cop was a lady. I guess she had a complete come-apart because we had gone through before it was open. Not nice at all. I was already out on the ice by the time she got there, so I missed the lecture the guys that followed me in got(sorry guys). So if you get there much before 7:30 or 8:00 wait or take your chances.
Once you're in, follow the road straight down to the water. Road is snowpacked and a few people have gotten stuck parking and turning around. You know what your vehicle is capable of. Park before you get stuck. The ice is right in front of you. Walk down the road onto the ice. Real easy access. Head over to the south side(left). Personally I think the fishing is better the farther west you go. We were 100-200 yards south of the bouy, anywhere from 10-100 yards from the south bank. Any colored rat finkie, or small ice fly tipped with meal worm worked. Used a small sinker to get to the bottom faster. Let you lure settle to the bottom, watching for a hit on the way down. If you get to the bottom, bring it up 6-12 inches off the bottom. Then jig occasionally or just wait. Both worked. We had nonstop action all day. More perch right on the bottom. More trout 3-4 ft up. Watch for suspended trout cruising through if you have a fish finder. The bottom six feet lit up like a Christmas tree at times. We got into larger(8-10") perch both weeks. There were lots of small ones, but we would move around to find the large ones.
Hope this helps!
When are you going up?

Thanks for the info Chester. I am hoping to go up this Saturday but I have been out the last three weekends so I am begging for my release. If I don't get out this weekend it may be the next Saturday. Are you going up any of these times? If you are let me know. I would love to meet a new face and sponge some knowledge and experience. Also, we can meet up and I will pay the park entrance fee and we will only have to take one vehicle in.

Thanks again for the info and let me know if you can go fishing??

I have been throwing the Tibble Fork idea around a little. I haven't been there in years. I used to fish there and Silver Lake Flats a lot when I was younger. I read your post a while ago and have been wanting to take my b-i-law up there because of the easy fishing. Thanks for the idea, I may just take it.

I'm trying to get to Wyo two weekends in the next month, so I don't know when I will get back to Jordanelle. If this weekend doesn't work for Wyo, it will probably be Jordanelle. The next weekend is Scofield with the scouts. Then Presidents day in Wyo for sure I hope. When I hit Jordanelle next I'll let you know. Not much knowledge to pick at here. Just been ice fishing for two years now. Most folks on this board have forgotten more than I ever knew.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have only been ice fishing for a couple years and haven't had a chance to try anywhere other than the usual Scofield and Strawberry. I am looking for a chance to try some new spots so don't forget to contact me next time you are heading to Jordanelle. We can pretend together that we know what we are doing.
