Wyoming Watercraft Inspection...
#1
Thinking about taking my toon' to Wyoming in the next few weeks, question is, how do I get it inspected if I am up there earlier than inspection stations are open? Thanks

If you do not have a motor on it (inflatable toon) I believe you do not have to have it checked. I emailed them last week about my float tubes and they said since I did not have a motor on them I did not have to be inspected. I emailed this person to ask Beth Bear, AIS Coordinator beth.bear@wyo.gov

Port of entry in Evanston on the way up. There's also an inspection stationat the Anvil Dray turnoff manned at sunrise.

Here's a link to the inspection stations and locations, some are located on the Wasatch Front. Maybe you can get it done prior to departure.

No motor, no problem, but you will still have to buy a out of state Wy AIS sticker. In state non motorized is $5.00 but I'm not sure what out of state is.

OK I have to ask this question, I have a drift boat that occasionally I throw a 6 hp motor on to go out on the lakes, I do go over to the gorge every so often to catch a laker or two![Wink] I have went through the Evanston check station about 10 times now and never have they inspected my boat, And I have never been checked at Anvil, or any where else. (or have I ever seen a check station) now usually I don't go in the summer time its usually winter or early spring! so my question is if this is such an issue, and I'm paying 30 bucks to fund this program then why have I never had boat inspection? Due the mussels only live in warm weather?[crazy] or are they only worried about boats with bigger motors? I'm not trying to diss the the wyo game and fish I know they are trying to keep these invasive critters out of the lake but to me it seems the program is a little flawed. please help me understand this question I've had in the back of my mind for awhile now!!!

[#800000]According to the Wyoming Game & Fish Department website:[/#800000]
Quote:Wyoming law requires any watercraft entering the state from March 1-November 30th each year to be inspected for AIS before launching in Wyoming.

[#800000]No where that I found does it distinguish between with/without a motor. It just says ANY watercraft.[/#800000]

[#800000]The website goes on to say:[/#800000]
Quote:Any watercraft that has been in a water infested with zebra/quagga mussels within the last 30 days, is required to undergo a mandatory inspection by an authorized inspector prior to launching during ALL months of the year.

Any person transporting a watercraft who did not encounter a mandatory aquatic invasive species check station prior to reaching a water of the state may launch without further inspection if the watercraft has a properly affixed seal applied by an authorized inspector and is accompanied by a valid seal receipt during transit. The person transporting the watercraft may remove the seal immediately prior to launching on the destination water and must retain the seal and valid seal receipt while on the water.

[#800000]As I see (read) it, you can not legally launch ANY watercraft until/unless it has been inspected.[/#800000]

[#800000]As to the AIS Decal, the website says this:[/#800000]
Quote:All watercraft using Wyoming waters are required to display an Aquatic Invasive Species decal. Costs for the decal are $10 for motorized watercraft registered in Wyoming, $30 for motorized watercraft registered in other states, $5 for non-motorized watercraft owned by Wyoming residents and $15 for non-motorized watercraft owned by non residents. Non-motorized inflatable watercraft 10 feet or less in length are exempt. Fees collected for the AIS decal will be used to fund the AIS program in Wyoming along with a General Fund Appropriation. These fees will pay for outreach and education, watercraft inspections, and monitoring to prevent the spread of AIS into Wyoming.

[#800000]I would guess that the reply Majja got from Beth Bear was in reference to the decal requirement and not the inspection requirement. But that is only a guess. However, if it were me, I would make a phone call to Wyoming and clarify that point if I were to use a non-motorized tube/toon (less than 10 ft in length) there.[/#800000]

[#800000]Also, there are 8 inspection agents available in Utah that are authorized to perform a Wyoming inspection and issue the appropriate seal and receipt. You cannot launch your watercraft in Wyoming without having both of those in your possession regardless of when you launch your watercraft.[/#800000]

I had a brain fart, I need the AIS sticker, not just the inspection. I am used to fishing in Utah and just travelling through Wyoming so we would just get the inspection, to launch in Wyoming I need the sticker.

Thanks for the Info Bob! So here's another question is that seal good for multiple days if you launch more than one time, on the same trip?

I believe if you are staying and launching on the Wyoming side you do not need to, but if you are staying in Utah and launching in Wyoming you have to get it done each day, could be mistaken though. When we went from Lucerne to Buckboard to launch, the inspection at Anvil took all of 3 minutes and were on our way, it's pretty painless.

So here's another question is that seal good for multiple days if you launch more than one time, on the same trip?
[#800000]My GUESS would be yes, it is. When I stayed at Buckboard and traveled back and forth to Lucerne, I never stopped at the Anvil check station coming back into Wyoming from Utah. I had the seal and receipt in the boat from my initial inspection in Evanston to show anybody who might stop me; nobody ever did. Until such time that I get told differently by a Wyoming LEO, I'll continue to do that each time I fish the Gorge area for multiple, continuous days at a time.[/#800000]

[#800000]I guess you could take that a step further and make an argument for taking your boat to Anvil for the inspection just so you could go back and launch at Lucerne but boat north into Wyoming to fish. For sure you have to have the Wyoming AIS decal on your boat if you do. Does any body from Utah actually go to Anvil for the inspection before launching at Lucerne and then motoring to the Wyoming side of the Gorge to fish?[/#800000]

That might be a backup option if ya don't get it done in Evanston or locally here on the Wasatch front if you plan on fishing the Wyoming side. Thanks for the info guys!

i have always been told you can launch in ut and travel in to Wyoming with out issue if you boat is inspected prior to launch in ut, you do not have to drive to anvil for an inspection to launch at lucerne and then travel by boat to Wyoming ,

Yes, Lucerne has their own inspection, but the question is in relation to the Wyoming side.

it is not that complicated if you our inspected in ut, you are ok to launch on flaming gorge , you do not have to be inspected in Wyoming unless you pass one of there stations when they are open.
