Hello- I am going to be taking some friends out on Utah Lake out of the American Fork marina. Are there productive places to fish up north where that is or should I go south to Lincoln Beach area, islands? Are white bass still hitting or should I concentrate on catfish. They are novice fisherman, I am not but I am not familiar with Utah Lake outside of the posts I see for Lincoln Beach and surrounding areas. Also my boat is just a 18.5 footer, do I still need to be worried about depth? And where would that be. Excited to get these boys on some fish, several for the first time-thanks

White Bass are pretty much done spawning but if you find a few while exploring for cats. The water depth is low. Havent seen it for a week but it is really low. Probably not an issue if you keep trimmed up. I saw boats leaving a mud trail out at least 200 yards from the harbor. Be sure of the ramp you launch from some folks were dropping off the end of the concrete late last year. If you can find 3-4 feet of water you should be able to find a few cats. I have caught a few 22 to 24 inchers from shore this year I know they have done well out on the south end out of Lincoln Beach. Maybe Tube Dude will jump in here. He always has his finger on the pulse of Utah Lake

[#0000FF]You didn't say WHEN you are going. If it is within the next few days you are likely to get pushed around by the wind monster. Not good on Utah Lake...especially under the current shallow water conditions.
If you go out of American Fork, you can work the area straight out from the AF River inlet...in water as shallow as about 2 feet. White bass have finished massing up for the spawn but they are now cruising and looking for food...in the same areas.
You should find some cats in the same areas. But you will likely find more cats in the 3-4 foot depths. That is quite a ways out these days.
If the weather is decent you might consider making the run across to the Lindon area...and fish both out in front of the Battle Creek inlet and around the end buoys at the bubbleup. There have been some good cats biting there recently. Again, water over 3 feet deep is most productive. You can drift or slowly drag baits almost anywhere between the Lindon harbor and the end of the bubbleup. See attached map.
Channel cats are getting into spawn mode. The bigger fish are looking for rocks or brush. Not much of each in Utah Lake during low water. But if you find an area that the cats seem to like, you can sometimes do well by hanging a jig head below a bobber and fishing your bait slightly above the bottom.
All species will hit crawlers. But the bigger channel cats hit better on MEAT...carp meat, white bass, whole minnows, etc.
I am temporarily posting my book chapter on American Fork. Feel free to copy it. I will take it down in a couple of days.
Good luck.
