Roanoke River rock fish season for 2004
#1
The rock fish season for 2004 has been set for the Roanoke River. It will open for the lower river on March 1, 2004, while the upper river will be opening on March 15, 2004. Limits are the same as last year and any day to the week is open for taking rock.

Things are looking good for this years spring run of stripper. The river has been below the banks most of this year. Hopefully it will stay the same. Last year the river was well above the banks, making it impossible to fish from the banks. The boaters didn’t have much better luck fishing as the river was so high. Fish where caught, but nothing like past years.

The upper and lower Roanoke river are define as followed: From the 258 bridge down river to the sound is the lower and up river is from the bridge to the dam.

I fish the lower river a lot more than the upper river. So I am not to sure about places to fish from the bank up river. I do know that pepole fish from the bank up river near Weldon. It might not be a good idea to try to wade up river, strong currents, muddy water and cool water are just a few of the dangers in the whole river. If the water was not flowing fast you might could wade out a little up by the dam.

The shad arrive in early March most years. River level and water temp. has a lot to do with when they come. I have a site on the lower Roanoke River and will be giving reports of the fishing. http://beachfishing.tripod.com
